I am a Christian, and I am very libral. Therefore I accept everyone for who they are. Someone told me at church that you can't be gay and a christian. Is this true, and if so, why?

I think you can be
The reason I think you can be is because many of my friends are gay, lesbian, and bi. I am just confused. I am bi, but does that mean i am going to hell?

Yes, you can.
Homosexuals have been and continue to be good, Christian people - often of better faith than those who suppose God encourages discrimination.
To those who I'm sure will violently oppose my line of thought - to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a God out there somewhere incredibly dissapointed with how misguided his flock has become, both within themselves and in their judgement of His character.
That anyone would put love, compassion and a bit of common sense second to a translation of a translation of a translation of a translation of the text which documents His word as interpreted by a number of different people, in different eras, with their own latent bias/prejudice... which were only meant to guide love and compassion in the first place.
Seriously.

Homosexualty & Christianity
Matt22:37-40
37 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
A few facts:
1. Christ doesn't speak on the subject in any of the gospels.
2. Paul does but it is in connection to temple prostitution. so unless you are doing it to worship an idol your safe.
Personal experience:
I know God loves me. He took me out of a thirty year addiction to alcohol. would he have done that for someone he thought was an abomination?

Of Course!
Even though the Bible says its a sin, Hello, dont we all remember the verse ALL HAVE SINNED? I mean seriously, no one is perfect. If God can let Paul, someone who sinned horribly into heaven, He can let anyone who believes in. All sin is equal in His eyes. Jesus died for the liar, and the murderer, the prostitute and the gossiper.

If you're gay then its impossible for you to believe in god. A special chemical is released in your brain that refuses to let you believe. I'm being sarcastic if you hadnt noticed, I'm not a fan of the gay pride deal but it has nothing to do with the rest of your lifes decisions. It's the same stupid thing like saying you cant do this or that cause you're female,no relivence.

gay by birth fabulous by choice
If you mean can you be gay and worship Christ than yes you can. Worshiping Christ is an act of faith and will. faith: you must believe Christ is God. will: you must do it. Neither is exclusively heterosexual. Only you can determine if you can be a christian. Now however if you mean can i go to Heaven and be gay there are two schools of thought on this. the first and more traditional says "no" homosexuality is a sin and we all know Christians don't sin or even worse commit the same sin twice! Just as there are no homosexuals in Iran there are no homosexuals in a truly believing Christian church. after all you never hear about Christian homosexuals in the news. The second and correct way of thinking about this is "yes" but don't take my word for it after all I am hardly unbiased being both Christian and gay. Here is a small homework assignment go to the Assembly of God web site and and ask them.
If they choose to respond to you you will receive a collage level synopses on one of these schools of thought. After you have done that and if you are still interested in being a Christian. go to whosoever.org or the United Church of Christ or soleforce.org and ask them read the material on the website and ask yourself who better represents a Christian heart.

Can one sin and be Christian is the meaning of the question
The answer is complex somewhat. A Christian may sin occassionally yet he or she should not want to, and homosexuality is a sinful activity saith the Bible quite a lot.
God may make a project of saving some individuals i his pre-determined plan over time, and before they are actually saved they perpetrate homosexuality and other nefarious activities.
Incidentally 'liberal' is about individual rights not depravity. A people that believe that liberalism is depravity will not have enough self-discipline to survive very long. It actuallt take positive intention to keep a nation revitalized and vigiliant about protecting its national interests.

I'm really not sure.
Look this is a big issue right now and I've got many people to try and explain things for me, but absolutely none of them have helped. The best advice I got was I had been given all the evidence and facts and it should be my own decision to make. I still haven't decided.
Like you, I am a strong Christian but I really don't have any particular attitude to gays or feel anything against them. Indeed, I have some great friends who are gay but I just don't know what to think.
I think perhaps the best thing to do is talk to your local priest or better, youth paster and they may be able to help. But I guess ultimately the decision is yours after you have had a long thought discussion with yourself and I guess you can come to an ultimate decision then.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Message me if you have any queries. Bye!!!

You cannot be a true Christian and also be Gay
It goes against everything in the Christian Bible to say that you're a Christian but you're also gay. God didn't place Adam and Eve and Then Steve and Janie did he? It was Adam and Eve, that's it. God condemns Homosexuality. If you're Gay, Bi or Lesbian you're, sadly, not making it to heaven.
It goes the same with having sex before marriage, lying, killing or stealing.
God did not create us to love the same sex. He created Men for Women and Women for men..not the other way around.
I'm sorry, but that's the truth.

Please read this, could save your life
A True Christian not only believes that God is existant and forgiving, but lives life for God.
You will be made into a new person, which is something very important to understand. A new person to live the way God wants you to live, which does not include homosexuality...
To truely understand love and to love someone, that wisdom will come from God. You cannot truely love someone of the same sex, the way that you would truely love someone of the opposite sex.
However you will probably still get to heaven, if you are are gay, bi or whatever. Except to be a christian means to live for God, not just to admit to the exsitance.
The devil's aim to either hide the exsistance of himself from you, or to make you so interested that it is "unhealthy". Many ways you will be decieved, to have a dose of "real life" to cloud your judgement with voices, even to corrupt christianity.
True is Christianity is merely christian, while corrupted christianity is "being christain and"
Being christian and a pacifist, Christian and a vegeterian, this is not to say that having interests is "wrong", for you will be more yourself than ever, but to say that being christian is to be merely christian and that alone. Mormons, Lutherin, Catholic, all are corrupted... and kept hidden. For it is being Christian and this.
To be "christian and gay" is not christianity
To be "a christian and also gay"... idk what that is.
Live your life towards god's will, and that is christianity.
I hope you realize that being gay or whatever is a sin, and not just a sin... a curruption, a act of the devil. Please seek to understand this...
My answer is yes, becuase you can become a christian then be changed, however keep in mind that christianity does not consist of only going to heaven.

Hell for gays, sounds dramatic! hehe
Does it matter. What matters is that person passing your window right this instant, the cat crawling up in your lap while you read these very words. Stop, pet it, care for the now, that's the funky importance, this now. Jesus, great man, the bible, the Coran, the different beliefs, all different interpretations of the same mysterious force. A desert palm is as much part of nature as a european pine. If you stumble across a flower devine, do you argue or bicker about what name/label to put on it? or do you stop "Damn! That's a rare beauty" and admire it instead. If you are a man and like other men, if you are a girly and like girlies, then love them with all your heart. "Heaven" is not reserved for single labels like (hetero, homo, gay, lesbian, straight)"Heaven is for all, even those who "are going to hell" a "damned person" has simply lost himself, it is not who he is, there's salvation for us all, in this life or the next.
Sadly the human race like to put religion into a box. "If you don't do this you will go to hell"
Simply love for loves sake, smile because that is who you are. Foget labels like gay or lesbian, follow your heart and not your "scheeming-I-like-to-put-everything-in-a-box MIND" of yours! Don't be surprised if a certain amount of "priests" got thier chubby little fingers around the bible and changed a few things to further thier church...
With lots of love...

Being a Chritian and homosexual (practising) just can't work, you are only fooling youself. If a believer loves their Saviour they would not be living an immoral lifestyle bringing shame to the name of Christ.A homosexual can repent and turn to Christ and many have and changed to a heterosexual lifestyle.TeChNoWC

Say you have a Hasidic Jew, who goes to the temple every saturday, but in his living room has a shrine to the Hindu god Shiva, complete with statues and offering plates. Wouldn't you say he is breaking the 1st and 2nd commandments? wouldn't you say he is being a hypocrite?
let's say you have a Muslim who likes to have a ham sandwich and wash it down with a beer. isn't he being a hypocrite?
If you have a Hindu who eats a double cheeseburger at McDonalds, isn't he being a hypocrite?
so therefor a Christian who has extramarital sex with people of his own gender is also a hypocrite, wouldn't you say?
If you claim to be a jew, then you are saying that jewish beliefs are your beliefs, jewish customs are your customs and jewish laws are your laws. the same is true if you claim to be christian.
having a denomination has nothing to do with it. the final authority is the bible, so if you claim to be christian, but you don't believe in the Bible, you are a hypocrite.

Those are laws of the Old Testament where as the admonitions against homosexuality are in the New Testament.
On another note, a lot of Jewish Christians ( and I don't mean the messianic Christian thing going around these days, but actual Jews who have come to Christ ) still do such things out of habit. Especially the handful of Hassid who come to the Lord.

Yes, there IS only one true church: The Body of Christ.
Putting 'church' on a building makes it just that: A building with a title.
The true church is the Body which follows Christ. Which is why I don't go with a church ( building ) but with the Body ( fellowship in Christ ). Let other people make extra-Biblical claims or rules, that's their prerogative. But as for me, I'll go with the Body.
Surprise The Thrice!!!!
Yes, you can go there. We are called by the Lord, given the invitation, to go there. That church, the actual church, is in His arms.

If you doubt the validity of His inspired word, can you truly be said to be a believer? If you do things that He specifically told you not to, can you truly be said to be a follower? True, nobody is sinless, and everyone has something to repent of, but are you repentant if you keep doing the same sin, even though you confess it? Jesus will help to free you of sin, but it's going to take some toil and effort on your part to stay the course.

Which one of you is the ACTUAL Christian? Which one is better and why?
Does it really matter that much? If you feel certain rules and traditions which harm no one are the best and most correct way to follow and honor God--then so be it. God probably likes that. But I don't know if he's pissed at Nef for not going to mass on Saturdays and only Saturdays--or at mud for ONLY going to mass on Saturday's and only Saturdays. I don't know if Jesus is shaking His head in shame at one of you for this. How could I?
Personally, I consider the both of you--and myself--Christians. And I don't care what day, if any you go to mass. I don't even care if you completely accept gays. I think you should. I think it would be the compassionate and Christian thing to do, but I know this is a hard concept for many people. I don't think it makes you a bad Christian or even a bad person by default.
Assuming I get to heaven someday, I will be utterly heartbroken if not all the good other-faithed-Christians and Jews and Muslims and Hindus and agnostics and atheists didn't make it because they didn't decode the "very straightforward" Bible the 2 of you rigidly follow in different ways.

You can...
Having thoughts of homosexuality, but not acting on them, would be acceptable within most christian doctrine. Actually, any form of sex that doesn't provide a chance at birth, aka. sodomy, would be considered wrong in the church, not just homosexual acts, but oral and anal and everything inbetween that can be found in heterosexual sex.So, yes, you can be homosexual and a 'good' christian.

It's not wrong to be tempted. Even Jesus was tempted. It is wrong when you give into temptation, and knowingly do the wrong thing. that is called sin, and we are all guilty of it. That's why we need a redeemer. But the idea is that, once you know something to be sin, you ask forgiveness, and then you turn away from it, you don't embrace it as a lifestyle and keep doing it.

Yes. It Only Makes Sense
I never read the Bible, but from what I know about Christianity, your God created us. From what I know, as long as you accept Jesus as your lord and saviour, and God as your king, then you will be accepted into heaven and live happily for eternity, regardless of your sexual orientations. If a gay man, or a lesbian woman does everything for their religion and abides by the laws of the Bible, then there should be no reason for them to go to Hell just because they have a better fascination for their own sex and are more attracted to the same sex that their God created.
