What is the purpose of life?

Why does life exist? Is there are a different reason for different species? What is the divine reason for all the complicated communitiy, government, school, religion, etc. systems? Are we missing the point entirely, or should it be more simple?

  • existence

The meaning of life is existence and nothing more. A species exists simply because it has survived to pass on it's genes. We have evolved to exist because it wouldn't make sense to evolve to not exist - there is no genetic material to pass on. The fight for survival (humans included) does not have any higer purpose or meaning - life exists because it has survived. All of our motives have to do with survival - the need to eat, be successful, mate, have positive social interactions, are all needs that have evolved because they have helped us to survive.

There is no divine reason for social institutions, they have all been created by humans to serve our needs and wishes to band together as a group.

  • NO PURPOSE

Your question asks for a purpose. There's a blank there that you fill in.

  • There's Divine, And Then There's Scientific

I meant the divine meaning, not the scientific one. I think that nature makes creatures for the sake of just making them, and humans do all of this to make eachother happy.

  • A quotation from Tolkien's "The Hobbit"

This sums it up for me.

“There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”

  • Happiness

I think that the reason for all the complicated inventions and art, music, government systems, emergency systems, etc. is to find a way to make everyone happy. But sometimes people are too wound up about HOW they are going to achieve this, HOW they are going to succeed, that they never actually enjoy the benifits.

  • Survival

"Thinking today as I rode that my survival remains an act of pure will. Holding myself together like a soldier wounded in battle, and feel that I could collapse from within at any time. No peace anywhere, no redemption imaginable. Just sense of waiting, killing time. Waiting for what? For time to pass, I guess. Can there be healing? Don't think so. Only strive to minimize scars. Not get too twisted, too crippled inside." (from Ghost Rider-Neil Peart)

  • Our Purpose
    Purpose, huh?
    There is none.

We were born through human intercourse, and you are just another thing in this world.

Everyones just an insignificant being meant for nothing.
    At all.

MAybe we're just here to continue a species ofliving thing.

But, any way, youre alive, live your life.
And what point is there to know, anyways?

  • Survival.
That is our purpose. We are born, we grow, we think and advance in our knowledge, we reproduce and teach our children, we die, and the circle begins again when our children have thier own childred.

Existance is our purpose. Striving for existance.
