Should right be taken away from student for thier own protection? If so, how far should the school be able to go? How much many right should be snached away from student? Should the school be allow to make it where students can’t walk through the front doors without going through metal detectors, where students can’t wear certain things or even certain colours, where student are forced to go to assembles everyday to be lectured and told about ways to keep the protected, etc? Should it all be able to be done in the name of portection? Err.. yeah got a little carried away, but tell me what you think.

Never allow a right to be taken away no matter how small. The meaning of life is not safety it is choice, creation and experience.

Students that are at school to cause problems need to get booted out. Students that are there to learn are having their right to learn infringed upon, and this shouldn’t be. A little parental accountability for child behavior via the legal system would not be out of place. Might save a lot of youth being brought before the legal system in the future.

SafetyVoted for by newmiracle87.
Unfortunately our schools are not easy to keep safe. If people are putting themselves on a pedestal and speaking out, they may be subject to teasing and/or violence. And if that kid gets beat up and goes crying back to their parents, guess what they're gonna do. They're gonna be screaming at the school, "why didn't you protect my kid?" The schools are trying to cover their asses. Some freedoms may be taken away, but you'll at least be alive in one piece.

no... but yes at the same timeVoted for by Kazrith.
what is this about colours, i’m not sure where your from but up north, i havent seen one news report on the disbanning of a colour for that deffinately would have made headline news! anyways, a metal detecter isnt the worst thing that could happen, but to force kids to assemblies everyday, wasting time on telling them how to keep the protected? NO, this is a waste of time, you dont have the time to be attending assemblies everyday, there is just too much stuff to learn.

of rights being taken away. it makes me uneasy. but I have been accused of being a bleeding hearted liberal. I think if people took more responsibility for their own actions, freedom would not need to be sacrificed. heh, I say that, people call me a cold-hearted conservative.

You should also consider the fact that by law we are forced to goto school only to have our rights taken away. If you were to take ones rights away it should be voluntary.

straining out gnats..Voted for by NeferMaatNetjer.
school boards have a tendancy to "strain out gnats while gulping down camels" as Christ put it. Look at Columbine. two very troubled students go crazy, shoot some 40+classmates and a teacher, then finally kill themselves. what does the school administration do? do they look into ways ways troubled teens can can get help before something like this happens? do they organize with parents to insure that someone notices the warning signs before they reach critical mass? No. They outlaw trenchcoats and clamp down with Stalinesque efficency on any speech that might even slightly be considered "threatening"

I understand
I understand your point. I personally behave differently. I do what I want and sometimes it coincides with authority and some times it doesn't. I personally don't mind paying taxes I would prefer to have no government but I really don't mind being taxed for the less fortunate. On the flip side I am willing to do time for the right I have decided I have to smoke marijuana. So no I do not comprimise on what I consider to be my right.May 4, 2005
