Muslim fends off 10 Christians attacking young Jewish couple

Two young Jewish couples were riding the train, coming home from a Hanukkah celebration when a rowdy group of Christians began screaming "Merry Christmas" at them. The Jewish youths responded "Happy Hanukkah", and were met with anti-Semetic slurs and a beat down--even the girls. One of the other passengers on the train, a Muslim youth, ran in and pulled one of the men off of assailing the girl, only to be grabbed by the rest of the group and beaten as well. One of the Jewish kids was able to pull the emergency break at this time and alert the authorities.

"I'm not a hero," he said. "I did what people should do every day."

"It is pretty sad that someone would get so offended over someone just saying 'Happy Chanukah,'" he added. "I don't know why they flipped out so much. They must be angry people."

As a Christian I'm a little ashamed that these thugs were doing this supposedly for "our" religion against their's. But, luckily I know everyone out there will not lump the terrible deeds of some Christians with ALL Christians. I'm interested in hearing what those who claim Muslim's are all hateful and lacking compassion think of this. Hassan Askari demonstrated courage, and the supposed Christian ideal of universal love and empathy.

  • Nice work Hassan
It seems to me as, Tech mentions, that these people were obsessed with their traditions, and the act committed was due more to their petty nationalism/ group mentality rather than truly feeling that their attack was justified religiously.

Anybody from any religion can be lacking compassion, as can people without religion. Yet I think people on the whole are alright really.

  • A true Christian
Wouldn't attack a Jewish girl as Jews are the chosen people of God and are if anything superior to Gentiles. They are to be treated with the upmost respect and adoration, and it is our job to be caretakers of these people, as is prophesied in Isaiah. The persecutions that the Jewish people have faced throughout the centuries is a sign of the devil's struggle to destroy God's people, and anyone who is also attempting this is allied to the devil. There are Christian ministries worldwide that are attempting to rescue the Jewish people from captivity or from foreign lands and re-establish themselves within their country of origin, Israel, as is commanded of us in the Bible. These ministries have done amazing things for these people and is a sign of Christ's ongoing influence in this world through born again Christians.

Worldly people who are in love with their traditions are not born again Christians.

  • there are haters and heroes in every group
As a christian, who married into a jewish family, I am amazed and upset that Christians would behave in such a way. Have they forgotten that our Savior was himself a Jew?

I would like to commend a Muslim man for standing up for what is right. It sets him well apart from those who would stone a 15 year old girl to death for letting her hair slip out from under her hijab.

  • Gods chosen people?
Last time I checked, God didn't do faves. Everyone should be Gods chosen, not just a select group. Christian, Jew, or Muslim, should be treated with the up most respect.
And it was a very heroic act and I am proud of him, for just doing good for helping another human being.

  • Nowhere does it say they are Christian
At least I could not find it. I read both links and then searched the Joseph Jirovec guy who is the supposed ring leader and all I could get was that he denied it saying his mother is Jewish and also that one of the attackers shouted "this is a Christian country"

Sounds like they were quite possibly enjoying the season a little too much and got rowdy. They certainly dont sound as thought they are living as Christians.
