Abortion is hardly black and white

I find that in general most people are split when it comes to abortion - pro-life or pro-choice. But is it really that simple? Those two states are far too simplistic to take on every single individuals opinion. Are we really either one? Take woman who labels herself as pro-choice, meaning she's for abortion, but if she decided to have one after becoming pregnant, and cries, gets depresssed, etc etc about it, she's surely not completely pro-choice because that regret is evident. Now take a woman who labels herself a pro-life and she finds out her child will 100% be born severely disabled to the point that they cannot enjoy life. They're born without, or only part of their brain, for example (there's a condition where that happens and they usually live for a matter of weeks, if that). Is there absolutely no guilt felt with carrying on that pregnancy? How exactly can every single person's opinions be catagorised with two simple terms - pro-life and pro-choice?

It may not all be black and white but not everyone sees alot of grey either.

  • Pro Health....Death..
I would say that I am pro health as well, but Abortion has a lot to do with how the mother view life and death. If a mother believes in reincarnation, or a person doesn't believe in a heaven or hell, and one we are dead we are nothing....It can get down to personal beliefs as well as the situation of the child sometimes.

  • I myself am pro life yet...
They cant be put like that. There are always what if situations. What if the baby was going to harm the mother. What if you thought the baby was going to have cancer since it runs in the family. What if you dont want it to have red hair. I am pro life but I do understand the other side. I understand that in some situations that seems like the best option especially if its a health risk to the mother. I dont like the idea but given a certain situation I can see it. Nothings black and white but sometimes theres an obvious right answer.

  • Au Contrair, Friend.
Abortion is as black and white as this post is. To me there are three parties you can be in: Pro-abortion, no matter the circum stances, pro-life, no matter the circumstances, or the party that leans toward the circumstances of birth and birth defects. That's where the hard decision comes in; do I sacrifice my unborn child's life because I may not survive birth? Do I kill my unborn child because he's deformed so badly he will only suffer his entire life? Do I kill my baby because I was raped?

The only way I would even consider abortion is if the baby was so deformed and mentally affected that there would be next to no chance in survival, or he would be condemned to the life of a brain-dead veggie in bed. Even then, I'm sure I'd be depressed and would never be the same.

I don't claim myself pro-choice, and cannot claim myself pro-life. I simply claim myself pro-health.

  • pro abortion?
Abortion is merely one's own opinion and you can decide if your for it or against it based on one criterion. Which is better, a bed or an apple? I think a bed is best for sleeping and an apple is best for eating.

  • Mhmm
I guess I'm a fanatic. I would, under no circumstances, abort a child. They live a life as a vegetable? At least they experience life.
