Is Theology gaining grounds in politics of a Secular Nation?

I just read what the controversy was about. A hopeful candidate for presidency of United States, asks another contender of his own party or front, about his belief system. He asks whether mormon's beleive Jesus and Devil are brothers?......

Mormon's are Christians. Jesus is the son of God. The Devil (a power hungry angel) is in contention for the Spiritual seat of power and his party is call the “Evils”. God is the in the seat of Spiritual power (although one might dispute this) and his party is called the “Goods”. I am not sure who the son of the Devil is. In closing it is my opinion that Gods
Son (Jesus) is not the Devils brother and would have to question the thought process of
Anyone who could conceive such a question.
