If one dies as an infant

If one dies as an infant and does not have the mind capacity to understand the concept of God, or even understand the WORD ‘god’ is one punished by being sent to Hell or is one rewarded by being sent to Heaven?

  • Christian answer

To provide the simplest Christian response to this possible, an infant has not yet “eaten the apple” (knows not of good and evil) and therefore automatically goes to heaven as an innocent.

  • wrong to all the above!

age has NOTHING to do with it! It is the knowledge of reasoning right from wrong that holds you accountable for your actions. I was 6 years old when I believe I reached the age of accountability. There is NO set age, because it is based on understanding who God is and why things that are correct are rightious and knowing why, things that are bad are damaging. That can come at any age based on your personal insight and WISDOM. where in the heck did the thirteen come from? ! ? !?

  • The unpopular answer

Alright, now before I continue, I would just like to put this disclaimer: I'm not sure that I buy this argument, but I recognize that it is a valid line of reasoning, so I'll let you all decide.

Some christians who would call themselves "calvinist" (and a few who don't for that matter) believe in something called "origional sin," meaning they believe that we are all born with a sinful nature, and it is this nature that condemns us to hell, not our actions. If this is true, then yes, babies go to hell when they die if they die before they are saved. Hence, the practice of infant baptism. Here's the thing: If you hold this view, then you also believe that everyone DESERVES to go to hell, and that babies are in fact, NOT innocent, because they were born human, and all humans are born sinful and condemned to hell. We should be grateful that God chose to save the few he did, even though none deserve it.

Now like I said, I'm not sure I but this, because let's face it, no one seems to like the idea of babies going to hell, but hey, at least the argument is consistent. *shrug*.

  • Sounds good..

Hm yeah, but at that point (once in Heaven) do they grow to become adults or do they remain infants? And if they remain infants, do they gain the mental capacity to understand where they are and why they are there?

  • The "Apple" is not important

It is symbolic. Just as it was in the Garden. A simple fruit and nothing more. God could have said do not eat of the banana tree instead, it wouldn’t make the difference. What was special in the story is the disobeying God part. Bowing to temptation, that lead to guilt, which lead to negative energy, which caused a seperation between our positve energy and Gods positive energy. Knowledge of good and evil was a revelation to them not a magic formula. Hence the term, “Eye opening experience” or sudden awakening. The apple or pear or whatever was just a tree, just a simple fruit. No magic juice in it or any special powers.

  • Infants would go to heavan

In the Christian faith, if the child is younger than thriteen then they will automaticly go to heaven. Though on thier thirteenth birthday the said person is resonsible for his or her actions. So, if you are going by Christianity than yes, infants would go to heaven.

  • Mainly for the Christians..

I suppose this is directed to the so-called Christians on this board, but if anyone has any other opinion it is completely welcome. I have my own opinion but I choose not to share it at this time.

  • through her eyes

I just had a baby a month ago, and when I look in her eyes I can see much more spirit than a month of life would yield. I believe, as with anyone else, if a child dies the soul returns to the source (for lack of a better word) and they will be reborn if they are meant to be.

  • NOW SEE HERE

According to the medevial European belief, when human beings exceed the age of 7, they are at the age where they can make a concious decision between good and evil. (Or, this is the age where they have developed a conscience.) So, if you are under the age of 7, according to this belief, you go to heaven.

  • Never had a chance

They never had a chance to commit sin, and they didn't understand the concept of sin, then they go to Heaven... simple as that! -Kayla
