Should the monarchy be abolished in Britain?

As it doesn't serve any political purpose anymore, should the monarchy be abolished over here? This is probablly more relevent to any Britons on this site but a foriegn opinion is welcome
  • Probably not
They are an age-old insitiution and they are the epitome of Englishness and they're what makes Brtiain stand out. How much to they contribute to in the tourist industry just because people want to come and stand outside the palace.
Plus when Prince William ascends... well... He's not that bad to look at if you get me

But there are people who think they are a waste of space and should be gotten rid of. What your view?

They are economically viable, the revenue they bring in more than makes up the cost of maintenance. I could not care two stuffs about their quintessential Britishness, as soon as they cost us anything in real terms (if they ever do) scrap em.

The idea of a constitutional monarchy is an oxymoron. It's like socialist capitalism. either you have a king, with absolute power on the throne, or you have a constitution with power to an elected body. You cannot have both. It doesn't work!

  • Ugh, actually...
The thing I see in most political shifts is a result that is either entirely prosperous or leaves a government in complete ruin... I don't think it's a good idea considering how many rebellions there have been in the past. It wouldn't be crippleing to them but it's definitly not a good idea, not now anyway. Then again, I don't know too much about modern Britian, so I'm not exactly the most reliable source.
