*~*~* Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit *~*~*

Mathew 12:19 “And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.”

What does this mean to you? What do you think it means?

On this site we have Christians, non-Christians, those of other faiths, and those who claim no fath at all, so I’m curious to see what everyone thinks this means.

Without getting into a deep theological debate which could possibly lead to name-calling, I’m curious to see how many different people, from many different backgrounds, would interpret this Bible verse for themselves.

All personal opinions are welcome, not personal attacks against other posters. :)

  • To Blaspheme

If I tell an untruth about the Spirit Of god(His emotions and heartfeelings), then I have discredited or blasphemed the Spirit. You are three things: Body-the physical and temporary shell that houses you in this plain. Soul-the conscience thought or mind of you. Spirit- the emotions and who you actually are, what drives you and makes you passion, love of others and where your power eminates from. God is exactly the same and this is the image that we are alike. At one point; In His image we were created. God is: Father-the conscience mind of God. Son/Jesus-the physical and also temporary shell of God. the Holy Spirit-the emotions of God, His driving passion and where His power eminates from. If you tell a lie about the Spirit of God. You actually break Gods heart(from the greek meaning: bowels or central spirit). When you break someones heart; that phrase is derived directly from the Greek in the Bible. It means to; break their spirit or hurt them inside, emotionally. To cause saddness in them.

  • What the Jews Did

The Sins against the Holy Spirit is what the Jews did in the New Testament. Jesus had come to show His Father’s work through the power of the Holy Spirit. If all had happened according to plan, Jesus would have set up His earthly kingdom then and there. We see up until the verse in question that He speaks the Parables of the Kingdom, about these coming events. The Sanhedrin constantly give Him a hard time about it, and that is expected, but the turning point comes when they say He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the Prince of Demons. Thus, they have blasphemed the Holy Ghost by attributing His actions to the Devil. It is from this point on that Jesus never again speaks to the Sanhedrin on the matter of the Kingdom and rather shifts to the Gentiles.

  • Let's observe something....

...What does the phrase “will not be forgiven” mean? It means simply that it won’t be forgiven. Impardonable, and any synonymns with this word. Yes, there comes a time when God’s spirit leaves a person (King Saul). And yes, that is what this verse means. This is an impardonable sin. That is why a person had better not do it!!! It’s a BIG no-no! The Bible doesn’t say that God will forgive everything! It says that He forgives sin—it did not say specifically what sins. So, we can conclude that there are sins that cause permanent damage. Am I being nit-picky? No, because there is a story about a woman who was on her death bed and God told one of His prophets to tell her that she was going home. Well, she recovered and a few days later died. Now, did God lie? No….He said that He would take her home—He did not say whether she would go to her heavenly home or her earthly home. So you see….God himself sometimes says things like this—possibly so that we can see the finiteness of our own minds and titteringly praise God for his “interesting” sense of humor. However, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, is a serious matter and as Jesus specified, it is unpardonable. So, it’s a big no-no. And hey….Why even bother debating the issue? I mean, as Christians, we shouldn’t want to blaspheme the Holy Spirit in the first place….

  • Blasphemy is a nefarious thing

Blasphemy is a very very nefarious and nasty thing and the creation of an evil mind. So, no body should think of blaspheming the Holy Spirit or even His holy men, holy angels, holy places and holy books,

  • i'm not christian but...

well in my opinion i believe it means that no matter what you do you can be forgiven if you never lash out against God himself, if you stay loyal to him he shall be on your side. It could also mean that any sin against another person like if you murder or rape them but i only think that because i am not really religous. I think my first idea works better for this verse.

If you say i hate you or curse at the holy spirit it will bw fogiven, blaspheme means to deny so if you deny ones exestience it will not be forgiven but if you know he is there it is alright as long as you dont say “there is no holy spirit he is fake and dumb”

  • Holy Spirit Is Us

Here's my take (based on Christian teachings and my own thoughts)...God has the power to forgive, He created....Jesus had the power to forgive...He was God on Earth...The Holy Spirit IS US! Taoists refer to a central unifying spirit which unites all people...this is the Holy Spirit...therefore, cursing the Spirit is actually cursing ourselves...which means there is no one to forgive us execept ourselves...there for....the Holy Spirit can only forgive the Holy Spirit

  • I am an atheist, hear me breathe...

God is all. This means, in truth, that the entirety of infinite existence (including us) is God. The only true sin is to try to deny this truth as humans have been doing since the birth of abstract thought 2 million years ago. It leads to a species self - destruction. This is what it means to 'sin against the spirit'.

  • A christian view

The unforgivable sin is said to be blaspheming the holy spirit. Blaspheming the holy spirit would mean that You attributed his working to the devil, or You attributed the workings of the devil to him. Both of which would be impossible for a christian (with a realationship with God) to do. A person would have to consiously deviate from the truth. That is why it is unforgivable.

  • Cool

The spirit is the core which guides positive energy. When I CHOOSE (free choice) against this guide I choose pain for myself. I still remember a lot of my bad decisions I suspect I will carry them with me always I suppose this happens due to a lack of forgiveness.

I’m one of the Christians by the way.
