I was watching on one of the major news channels this morning this thing about same-sex classes. They claim that it improves the kids' scores but admit that it doesnt exactly equip them with social skills. The man on the show said that education of course is first priority and that teaching social skills is second. He also said that all their elective classes, gym..art...music, would be co-ed.

RAWR!
Ok first of all i think social skills is more important that that, so when the kids get out into the future life, they wont turn into kids that stick to there selfs, We need to find a new way to raise grades but keep them co-ed

Eh
I went to same-sex classes. Honestly, it's a unique experience compared to what most people get, but on the whole not much more different. You still fantasize about girls when you're bored, just not ones in class (with the exception of the occasional nice looking teacher).
You still distract each other, and in easier ways. You can loudly talk about experiences with girls, lots of dirty jokes, and LOTS of farts. Oh yes, farts. Even if you weren't a participant, there were plenty to go around. Even if you weren't someone who particularly found the humor in them and found them annoying, your reaction of annoyance would only enhance the humor of the room, thus making you have to laugh a little inwardly.
One of my favorite things about high school was never showering or fixing my hair or shaving in the morning. Who was I trying to impress? After school I'd do all that, and put myself into situations where I'd meet up with girls. I still developed relatively the same socially--just a lot more appreciation to the humor of farts. And I suppose my tendency towards gay jokes increased exponentially...

I think....
That is one of the more stupid ideas I have ever heard. We had girls gym and girls health and let me tell you there wasnt a whole lot of focusing going on. The guys in the class balance it out. I think they are trying to make kids focus less on relationships, which is a noble thought, but its not going to work.

Not for it at all.
High School would just be hell. Leave it the way it is. The lack of boys in ones every day life and classes would definately put a damper on everything...and if you don't get along well with other girls, well...lol.
Vast majority of my friends aer guys.

As for the raising grades... self-motivation isn't something that can be taught to the masses. Students need to WANT to learn before they can be taught. They have to focus and pay attention, and no matter what anyone does (change the curriculum, change the classes, change the school) it won't change the fact that each student is different in the way they view school and grades. No one can teach the will to learn.
