    i think barbies are fine for young people, as long as the girls/boys understand that they are not expected to look like the barbie/ken dolls

    I never really understood that, surely children realise they are just toys. When I was obsessed with action man, I did not believe that was a realistic portrayl of men. When I turned 18 and grew out of Action Man (you may know it as GI Joe)my world did not fall out of place because everyone was not beating up baddies.

      but some fall into a place where they want to be as skinny as the barbie, where they think they must have a "perfect" chest and hips and a tiny waistline
      it's also compounded by all models being tiny and being smaller than a certain size.....

      I did not know her name, I may be pretty pro at trivia, but that does not quite extend to barbie. However there was not a condition that implied no research. Banana me!

    No one wants to look like Barbie. She was freakish looking and her feet were rigidly stuck in a series of right angles to fit into high heels. They made a cheap, generic doll that over the years improved upon that same cheap, generic look. Today kids play with Bratz dolls. Are they going to get depressed because they don't have eyes that take up 25% of their face?

    If Barbie were real...

    I had, at one point in my young life, over 35 barbie dolls, not including my 'look at' dolls, which were collectables (still have about a dozen of them). I have a poor body-image, yes. I truly do, and I have even suffered from a mild bout of anorexia and bulimia mixed, and I count calories and have anxiety to this day. Due to Barbie? I think not! It's a product of my own insecurities.
    HOWEVER: If Barbara Milicent Roberts was a REAL WOMAN...

    I'm probably 35-24-31, with bra, jeans, and t-shirt. I'm 5'4 or so, and weigh in at around 117lbs on one of my 'skinny days'. Compare that to 42-18-33, huh?
