  And that's it. See, there's no guilt because we didn't do anything. Perhaps some our ancestors may have. Mine didn't, but some did, sure. But that's not our problem. It's a new age, and in this age we're all born the same and treated the same.
  
  Perhaps all this wretched equality going around is baffling you as to WHY--it MUST be guilt! That's the only reason to care, right? Guilt?

  where is it? i would love to see some. Ever live near an Indian reservation? I have. I had to drive clear to Kalispell, 82 miles from where i lived, with a broken tooth that was sheer agony, because the dentist in Browning (only 12 miles away) refused to see me because I wasn't a Native American. if an Indian got turned away from a white dentist over his race, the ACLU would have been all over that like Micheal Moore on a ham sandwich, but because I was white, they didn't give a crap. don't tell me that there's no double standard.

  have you ever tried to get on disability, or get public assistance because you were too sick to work? one of the first questions they ask is what race you are. why do they need to know that if we are all equal? what does it matter what race I am?
  yet you will get NO assistance unless you answer that question, I guarantee it. they say it's optional, but everyone who refuses to answer is rejected. try it sometime, you'll see.

  Report the guy to the Bureau of Indian Affairs then, what do you want me to say? That's discrimination and it's not right, so do something.
  
  I broke my tooth while doing a double shift and had to wait until the next day to see the dentist. Massage your gums, even from outside the mouth along the cheek or lip if you want, and it's surprising how much it can sooth the agony of a terrible toothache. Something about the nerves in the gums only being receptive to a limited number of sensations. By the next day my tooth felt completely better unless I bit down on it, so I ended up putting the dentist appointment off lol. Just passing some advice if it should ever happen again.

  I don't know, I never understood that stuff. Most forms I fill out that ask that question are actually optional.

  Furthermore, Nef, I'd just like to point out how rude and prejudice you are being to WHITE PEOPLE. It is why I get so vocal and perhaps even agitated in comments like this. Even if there are people like what you are describing, white people that feel guilt for no reason and let the other races walk all over whites but defend them beyond belief--you can't possibly expect them to ALL be like that. I can't be vocal and outraged at the inequalities thrust upon a black person in a situation without being a naive white person that feels guilty about slavery?
  
  That unfair situation you describe where that cruel dentist denied you service because you are white--you point out that (after going to the authorities and media...), there may be a frenzy if a white person denied service to someone because they were Native American. Surely you don't DISAGREE with that frenzy happening. Let's just say that your point is completely true. White people can be prejudiced against and denied dental work without repercussions. Does that mean we shouldn't be annoyed that other races are being denied dental work by white people?? You're making the wrong argument. Push for the end of whatever instances of inequality are thrust upon white people. Tell the media and authorities about racist dentist and whatever other troubles you experience as a white person being prejudiced against, and strive to end prejudices everywhere. Don't attack the people that want to help those they SEE in need--as oppose to you, silent on an Indian Reservation, occasionally complaining about the treatment of white people to your friends or on a message board.

  you're right, I can't. just a small but very vocal minority are, but many of these like to show off their moral superiority over other white by being overly PC and yelling "racism" at everything.

  there's a difference between being outraged at inequality, wherever it exists, and putting all the blame on your own people, then trying to act like you're better than the rest of them because you make apologies.

  when did i do that? i wasn't criticizing people who really do help, i was criticizing those who try and pretend that they are better than others of their race because they can dance around the race-politics more skillfully. Which is the bigger bigot, the Ku Klux Klansman who openly calls black people "niggers", or the white liberal who thinks black people CANNOT be happy or successful unless HE does something to help them? Answer; they are BOTH bigots, one just has the courage to admit it!
  
  BTW, the dentist actually wanted to work on me, so it wasn't his fault. the tribal authorities who paid his salary wouldn't let him because I wasn't Indian. This came down from above the dentist. I did go to BIA about it, and nothing at all was done. All they gave me was the runaround that "tribal council has authority here", and the tribal council wouldn't even discuss it.

  I do think some people, of all races, get very touchy about stuff like this for no reason at all and usually end up making things worse anyway. Al Sharpton comes to mind.

  Who does this? Perhaps some people may point out that blacks had a hard time rising up in status because of racist people in power in the past, but that doesn't means they're feeling guilty or apologetic. It just means they're trying to right a wrong situation, same if they were the ones unfairly prejudiced against.

  Well, for one thing the KKK despises black people, thinks of them as subhuman animals, and would very much like to see them lynched. I think being condescending is not nearly as bad as that.
  
  But also not all cases where a white person wants to uplift a minority's status is saying they can't do it on their own. It's saying they're being denied lots of opportunities, and you want to help them get that chance. After all, what alternative are you describing? Black people are in trouble, and I can't help because it would mean I think black people can't help themselves?? We're all people, and we should all help each other. If someone is discriminating against blacks, whites, blonds, tall people--whatever--we should help, and not have to worry if we look like we think that group of people with whatever physical feature is incapable of doing things on their own.

  That's definitely not right. I'm not overly familiar with Indian Reservations, but I was under the impression that while tribal council does have authority over many regional matters, they still have to answer to the BIA and the rest of the American Government. I'd contact a local news network if for some reason BIA is doing nothing.

  i totally agree with the gist of what you are saying, but the problem is people who want to mandate it. they're not content with saying "love your neighbor". they want the power to say "love your neighbor OR ELSE!" You cannot force tolerance or acceptance. it has to be given willingly or else it's just lip-service.

  I don't think you should be legally punished for saying "mean things"--and generally you can't. But you can, and should, be fired for saying things out of conduct. You can get in trouble for rejecting service to someone based on race or orientation. But just saying stuff? It's a social no-no, there's no legal connection unless you're inciting violence or practically stalking someone.
