Our squadron makes fun of Marines for cussing like sailors and being arrogant. Are they really?
Sometimes. But there are way more Marines out there who would rather sit down and console an Army soldier who had just gotten back from Iraq. They save their butts every day.
You just have to step back and look at the big picture. When you target Hollywood, lest we not forget that we don't know these people personally. We don't call them up and chat every day friend-to-friend. We rely on the media, and that's what's turning this world against itself.

Hmm.... Interesting. I don't know if it is more of an issue about seeking out solutions, rather perhaps looking for a medium in which to vent. Though I think that these solutions might help and where very well thought through. Awesome stuff.

Actually the burden of proof is on both parties. If an atheist believes that there is no god and they then try to convince people like miss wonderland here that there isn't a god, then the proof does fall on them. However the amount of proof is irrelevant if the person that you are trying to prove the idea to is unwilling to call your "proof" a product of god when they could just as easily say that it is from natural science. The debate usually ends up back at creation where the atheist will have to prove that life came from some sort of reaction that took place on our planet that didn't take place on all the other worlds that we have been able to visit. And the christian/creation believed cultures will have to prove that life came from a superior being.

It doesn't take any faith to be an athiest. So if it were to be proven that life just suddenly began, the athiests would just accept that as the best answer. The only reason there is a conflict is because one is making a claim that's not founded it facts, and the other claim is.

That isn't entirely true. The atheist are not truly using any kind of facts that can be called proof that god doesn't exist. For example if they base their assertion on the fact that their is such a thing as evolution that the belief of creation is null and void. But one could assert that while evolution has been proven there is no proof that such a thing was not a product of God's higher level of conciousness creating a way for man to be able to adapt to the world without dying. Like I said until the day that God pops out of the sky and says "Hello" there is always going to be this debate.

Because there is no proof that anything is a product of a gods will, i do not believe it is true. I think its illogical to jump to conclusions that have minimal evidence to support them. So, even if it were proven that a god existed, i would only become a deist. Anything else would be presumptuous.

To be honest that is true. There are incidents in the bible that have been proven true, however that could honestly be tacked up to good record keeping mixed with religion. But like you said there is no real proof that one can pick up and hand to someone else that could be called proof.

Yes, athiests say there is a lack of evidence for a god. Theists are the ones who are making a claim that can't be validated. The athiests respond to that claim by rejecting it as being unfactual (or whatever). That's why the burden of proof is on the Theist. Isn't that what faith is for anyways?

Read anything on the subjects of atheism, theism, and religion, and then you will know why atheism is not a religion, and doesn't require any faith. Thats all i can think to say to you.

atheism on the other hand is the BELIEF that there is no god....
there is zero evidence that there is a god and an athiest simply takes the lack of evidence as proof of non-existance on FAITH...
just as a theist takes the lack of evidence that there isnt a god and takes it on FAITH...

That makes you an agnostic atheist. Atheists anaylize the evidence and conclude there is not reason to believe in a god. Atheists are no the ones saying, "hey all evidence leads to there being a god, but i think I know better."
It's not always about proof of non-existance, its more of a decision of whether or not theism makes any sense. I say no, which makes me an atheist. I'm not refusing to look at any possible proof of a god out of faith.

If, and I am saying if, god doesn't exist then what is the problem with believing that there is a god? I mean it makes some people feel happy, safe, and loved. It gives those people a reason for living virtuous lives. But of course I'm sure that the next comment will jhave something to say about all of the negative things done in the name of religion, but there are always going to be people that use things like religion for violence. Personally it seems deppressing to me to say that one lives their entire lives and then just goes away. What would it hurt for everyone to believe that there is a god that loves them and that wants them to happy.

There's a lot there
I don't have any idea how that posted here. Theres a thread for this already so we should post there. But ya, I think on top of the presumption that a god exists, your presuming it has an intellect, that it has a sex, that it had the capacity to create us, that it did create us, and that it used its intellect when he created us. None of those things would logically follow each other, so all of them would have to be exepted individually on faith if you were to belive them.October 13
But until then back to the continuing topic. While I do presume it has an intellect I assume nothing about sex. The only point of sex is on earth where we need to reproduce. But past that the real logic I follow is that the universe had to be created by something, even if it was just an amassing of energy at the beginning that created the big bang that thus fueled the creation of the universe. And if this thing that created the energy has been around since the beginning of the universe then I would logically assume that if it wasn't intelligent before that it became intelligent over the trillions of years since. One that thinks on a scale that is so much more advanced than our that we will never completely bridge the gap between it's consciousness and our own. If I had for some odd reason been around since life first appeared on earth as single cell organisms, then I probably wouldn't have thought that they would be capable of of any kind of thought process. But over time things changed and organisms developed, and what not on down the line. Would it not be illogical then in to say that "perhaps", a consciousness that has been around that long was incapable of thinking, learning, creating, and perhaps even evolving. I mean not saying that this follows any sort of christian doctrine, but in my mind it would be illogical to the highest degree to believe that this all came from nothing and that we where the highest form of life. And while that theory cannot be proved and cannot, thus seeming illogical itself, the logic of the theory adds up and gets us farther down the chain that just assuming that everything just came to be. If there is anything that science and logic teaches us is that there must be a cause for everything that happens, and that is how I end up at creation.
