Wafa Sultan

Wafa Sultan is a Syrian-American ex-Muslim. She grew up in Syria and went to med-school there, where she experienced a lot of the social injustices normally associated with the middle east.

Her traumatized life has led her to give up her faith and now she is an outspoken critic of Islam.

Here's a video from Youtube(there are dozens more as well)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=up3yuQDAWKQ

Now what's interesting (and controversial) is that she has this to state towards the middle:
"I have decided to fight Islam; please pay attention to my statement; to fight Islam, not the political Islam, not the militant Islam, not the radical Islam, not the Wahhabi Islam, but Islam itself...Islam has never been misunderstood, Islam is the problem....(Muslims) have to realize that they have only two choices: to change or to be crushed."

So what do you guys think of her? I personally am undecided. I sympathize with her greatly because of all she's been through but I feel that she is too harsh on the religion. I mean, all religions have parts of them that they're not proud of, Islam is not alone in this. Nevertheless, she does make some very good points that leave one thinking (especially in her other videos). Ie-in another video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ciOGS6r97oE&feature=related) she states (paraphrased) "No Jew has ever blown themselves up in a German Restaurant for revenge, only Muslims have."
  • Too harsh
I guess you have to sympathize with her anger, but that's not true about all Islam. Plenty are fine and peaceful. Her "facts" are baseless--she experienced militant, radical Islam but insists it's all like that. Why? What are her experiences with ALL other Islam?

So Jews tend to not be suicide bombers. That means ALL Muslim's are evil because some of them will do that? The Japanese in World War 2 were encouraged and often used would perform kamikaze strikes with their planes, or banzai charges on the ground--suicide bombing. Does this mean Japanese or Asians on the whole are nuts that just want to suicide bomb. Not just the militant Japanese or Asians, not the radical Japanese or Asians, not the Imperial Japanese Army ones--but the Japanese and Asians themselves.

No. People are people, and anyone who has either done a lick of research or lives in a diverse area understands that being Muslim is not the same as being a militant attacker or someone who is even old fashioned in gender roles!

Jews and Christians have their own sects that are extremely "traditional" and force them into specific clothes, enforced gender roles, and marry off kids as young as 13 to adults--sometimes multiple ones at a time. Some Christians dress up in white sheets with pointy masks and lynch and speak out against racial tolerance. Some Christians are Nazis. This does not mean Jews and Christians are the problem.
