My Hatred for McCain has just become permanent

So, as you all may or may not know, McCain has just picked Sarah Palin to run as his Vice President.

Now, I personally find this decision to be ludicrous. His decision was merely a stunt move to get the feminist/Hillary vote (which he won't get because die-hard Hillary fans won't be so quick to switch party allegiance and feminists won't vote for someone so pro-life). His decision was purely a political gamble that he felt he needed to win the election, regardless of how this would affect the country in the long run.

The hypocrisy in the fact that he would go and pick her, after the republicans bashed Obama for "lack of experience" is almost unbearable.

All this woman has accomplished is being mayor of a town of less than 8,000 people and governor of one of the smallest (population wise) and least "in the loop" states in the union. She is barely educated (having received a B.A. in journalism (not politics, or government or anything relevant) from the University of Idaho) and has a 3 month old child that she should be paying more attention to rather than this stunt of a run.

McCain, being the old sickly person that he is, should realize that the VP for him is a very important choice. I wouldn't be surprised if he croaked in the next few years or so and if he's president, that would mean Palin would become President-which would send our country straight to the fiery pits of hell.

I was already an Obama supporter before this, but now, if Obama doesn't win, I will have lost all hope for this country.
(Actually, maybe his pick was good for the country. If the masses realize what a joke of a VP choice she is, then Obama will definitely win the election.)

Ugh, so that was my rant.

Any thoughts?
  • This is great
This is a prime example of just how good a choice Sarah Palin is, She is a hardline anti abortionist, and as is demonstrated, scares the living hell out of the imorral factions of the liberal left. I dont really care for McCain, but his chances of surviving full term is somewhat questionable because of his age, Palin would make an exellent president, On the other hand, Obamas chances of surviving a full term is also shakey at best because he will be as hated by the rich elitists as bush was by the poverty stricken, and pacafists. that said , Palin will be a far better president then Biden

  • Very good points
Really it was a smart choice for McCain on the one hand. Many people will weigh the options and come to the same conclusions. But many will also see only what McCain's PR campaign thought of when they recommended this choice: She's young and a woman--you get the Hilary supporters that knew nothing of her policies, and you get people who are worried that you're old an unchanging. A lot of people will follow this. I bet she wears flagpins too. An election of images rather than policies, as usual.

  • Palin is a tool- literally.

Of course it was a smart choice for McCain. Haven't you seen the ads running? The people know McCain is just an older version of President Bush. If McCain is elected, we'll still basically experience the same policies and laws (and even this war) as we did under the Bush administration. That's a common fear of the public right now, and choosing someone so out of the loop is just what the campaign needs. As soon as we heard Palin, we went, "Who?" No one knows her, no one knows the way she runs, and the only things we have to go off of are her positions on certain issues. Combine this unknowing factor with the one that McCain will more than likely die before he finishes his term, and the people are staring at a completely new presidential candidate. We have no evidence she's like Bush, so we can only assume she's different and that's the appeal of her inexperience. We can't associate her with anything other than being the victim of irony (she preaches abstinence, yet her daughter is pregnant).

However, she brings no real power to the ticket other than the unknown factor. The fact she's against abortion (even in the case of incest and rape), she's been a life long member of the NRA in light of events like Columbine and most recently Virginia Tech, and she's from Alaska which arguably puts her in tight connection with the oil industry, she really does harm. Her stance with all of these issues alienates her from the American public (especially the wishy-washy democrats), and more than likely she won't win the Clinton supporters.

I do think it's a shame she's being manipulated. The dirt they're bringing up on her now pretty much ruins her chances of ever running for another political office other than Alaskan governor. She hasn't really had ample time to gain enough of a reputation to prove to the United States that she's a politician. If she goes into this on the McCain ticket and ends up losing, she’ll be ruined because everyone who doesn’t like her is against the policies she supports now.

  • Sarah Palin
An interesting choice by McCain, one that seems to have paid dividends in regards to his recent poll overtaking of Obama.Yet his choice raises a number of questions and its long term popularity may be in question, especially at a time when grass-root support for the Republicans is at a low.

Firstly there is the question of her experience. A first- term governorship of a rather isolated state does not exactly qualify as plentiful. While this is not inherrently catastrophic, it certainly blunts McCain's attacks against Obama for not having the experience to lead.

Secondly there is the feminist perspective of Mrs Palin. Palin currently resonates with many female voters but is abhorred by feminists. An ex-beauty queen supporting a pro-life cause is the antithesis of feminism, and certainly will not win her the supporters that may have sided with Clinton.

Finally, she has ridden high on a wave of interest and speculation after being chosen as the surprise running partner for McCain. Although she is highly competent at communicating with the media and the public at large, the electorate may tire of the frenzy rather quickly, as Obama has recently discovered.

  • where's the beef?
Cosmosis, you seem to have an axe to grind with Western folks like myself. what happened? did some cowboy steal your girlfiend, or did you get fired from a ranch hand job for making eyes at the sheep?

You have often lambasted "small town values", like big city values are somehow better. I think you envy me the fact that I can can go anywhere in the town I live in, at any time of day or night, and not have to worry about getting shot for being in the wrong "hood".

as an alumnus of Idaho State University myself, I find your tone regarding our sister college(U ofI) being the source of inferior education offensive and uninformed. We are not a bunch of podunk sowbelly rednecks out west. we are hard-working, educated , and successful people who form the backbone of the nation, and we pay our taxes without complaint. that's more than I can say for any big city liberals I know of.
