God exists however Satan is just a metaphor?

So I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who is a priest. He knows my stance of religion and respects it. As do his friends who were present for the debate. I posed the question to him and his fellow men of the cloth about their belief of demons and Satan. He then said Satan and Hell aren't necessarily physical entities or physical places. They are more a less the evils in the world and metaphors for those evils.
  • no!
"The greatest trick the devil ever played was to convince the world that he does not exist." Truly, if he were just a metaphor how could the bible stress so much on overcoming his lies etc.? It is not in God's nature to lie or trick us. He would not lie to us. Satan is as real as anything. He continues to tempt us and try to take us away from God even this very second. That is why in Ephesians Paul (or rather, the Holy Spirit)tells us to put on the full armor of God so we may not be taken by Satan's lies. His reality cannot be questioned, just as much as the reality of God. God bless!!!

  • It is time to get serious
Where do you people get your information about God and Satan? If your God is the God of the Bible and the Bible is the word of God. Don't you owe to your self to know what He is telling you? Do you know why we are here? Who and what is Satan? Hell? Heaven? God? God does nothing without a purpose and you can know what it is.

You will know in a hurry if what it is saying is true or not, so it won't be a waste of time. But please stop coming here ill informed and ignorant about something so important to all of us. God wants you to know Him, go and find out what he has to say.

  • Satan
    About Satan
Revelation 12:7-9, battled in heaven and the great serpent known as satan was thrown down to the earth. Doesnt things and enviorments reflect the power and authority behind it? Tell me then, if all life is in Heaven and Satan was cast to the Earth wouldnt our living conditions reflect that?

  • The Sceptisism is Talking to Me
About Hell being a physical place; yes and no. I learn that the 2/3 of the population of Heaven was thrown out when Joining Lucifer instead of Christ in the pre-mortal existence. The place where they landed was called Hell. That way, the expression has been known to us as a bad place (which it really is, if existing). Now, I've also heard that Hell can be a feeling, a sensation of absolute grief, horrification and spiritual torture. About Satan being real; verily I say unto thee; yay. He is essential to life as we know it. Though the word "Satan" is an expression (his real name being Lucifer), it has helped men knowing and acknowledging him and his works (at some perts).

  • Well
That's just speculation. If you are going along with this "If Satan is just a metaphor, would it not add up that God is as well?" you are supposing "Satan is a metaphor" is fact. But there is no evidence to that either. A priest and some other religious people said that? That's hardly authoritative. Furthermore you are assuming that should Satan and demons and hell be metaphors, that that must also mean God is. While the possibility remains, this wouldn't HAVE to follow suit like that. If bigfoot is just a myth, does that mean the Locness Monster is as well? While a possibility, they are not dependent on each other for existence.

  • NO!
I have to say that Satan DOES exist! I have been taught to STRONGLY believe that Satan's real name is Lucifer (ironically in Latin, the word "Lucifer", meaning "Light-Bringer" from lux, lucis, "light", and ferre, "to bear, bring") and he was an angel in Heaven. God needed someone to make the ultimate sacrifice but Lucifer wanted the glory and to take away choice. So there was a war and Lucifer and his faction were sent to Hell. I think that Satan and Hell ARE a real and physical place, and person.

  • So then what is God?
Is God just a metaphor for the good in the world?
