Do you like Dr Faustus? How do you feel about the soul? does it exist? what does it mean to you? If you do believe in the soul would you sell it to the devil for everything that Dr Faustus was supposed to have gained? should i be bothered to use capital letters at the beginning of sentences...?

Dr. Faustus........Both Cruel and Miserable!60% Voted for by Mujtaba H Zaidi, Cyanide Milkshake, Emotions.
Dr. Faustus was not only curious, intelligent and hard-working, but also he was pleasure-loving, sluggish, revelery-making and easy-going too. He at heart was nice, but could not prolong his resistance towards the evil temptations made by Satan. So, though he spent a colourful life full of amusement and debauchery, yet he seemed a bit poor and miserable as soon as he realised that twenty-four years are over. We are also the same category. We indulge in revelaries of many kinds, selling our souls to the devilish practices. And only repentance and remorse is left in our wait at the end of life.

Dr faustus – We did that in the first year of college, though i’d seen it as a play years before. it was in german but it was subtitled so i could gather what was going on. it’s always been a favourite story but i felt Marlowe could have made it darker in the way he wrote it. I liked Mephistopheles…Never could spell it though, not even in the exam after i’d practiced for weeks .
would you sell your soul to the devil for a life of magic, debauchy and unrestrained pleasure like faust and so many like him? if you were a devout christian you might argue that magic, debauchery and unrestrained pleasure are the devil’s tools anyway so your soul is as good as handed over to Mr Satan if those are the things you desire. I guess first you’d have to ask yourself what you thought of the soul, what it meant to you and if it even existed in your belief. I believe in the soul, or something like it anyway, the very essence of your being, the bit where everything that makes you You is concentrated. a lot of people say the soul is all your goodness that makes redemption possible and that it has no personality. i dont like that. i think it does have personality – your own personality. otherwise how could you tell one from another?
some say a man without a soul is evil. again i disagree. to not have a soul would not make you evil, i dont think, just empty. i asked my friend and he said that to not have a soul would make you a bad person because you would not feel guilty if did something awful. But i dont think a soul is the same as a conscience. However, i guess if you had no feelings and were empty you wouldnt have much of a conscience either, and whether you killed or not or anything like that would make little difference to you. i dont know. i’ve never been in that situation.
When we die does our soul live on? does it go to another place? I’ve got my own views on religion and may divulge them later but i’m not going to go into it now. if you think god comes for your soul, fine. if you think the devil does, thats fine too. but i wouldnt be surpised if it didnt just die with you or dispell into the atmosphere. I guess it depends if you think the soul can exist without a body. do you?
if i do indeed have a soul as i think of it, would i sell it to the devil if he exsisted? Hmmm. good question. I dont know. i dont see why i should give over a large part of me to gain things i could have anyway. maybe not the magic – not entirely sure if that exsists or not either – but debauchery and pleasure, drinking, gambling, travelling great distances, power…all that i can get without the help of the devil, although if he does exsist maybe that’s what drives us to them. There are too many variables and different beliefs that cant be proven to make a truly valid argument i guess.
so i suppose all of that was pointless lol. but it was a good story, faust. i still read it sometimes. i always got picked to be mephistopheles in class.
