Its purpose is simple balance
everyday is someones birthday. Everyday is someones death day. i think that cancer and things of those natures are put here on the earth to ensure that one, the amount of people on the world isn't growing to rapidly and that all are resources are at a level of consumption that will ensure our current quality of life... Now i know this seem very " republican" but i ensure this is not the case. i thin disease and murder and std's and all that really good stuff is put here to create a simple balance of things for the future... today it's cancer tomorrow it could be zombies... who knows

here's your explanation
What is cancer? Cancer is a mutation, caused by a build-up of errors as DNA replicates. It's caused by the imperfection of human genes. Our bodies are not perfect, and therefore cells don't duplicate perfectly every time. And eventually, the errors accumulate, and one day, the errors cause a cancer cell.
Fit into a christian context: cancer is God's way of making sure we don't live forever. After we sinned, God cursed us with imperfection. And therefore, death is inevitable.
And diseases? Basically, are you asking "why does death exist?" Honey, without death, life would have no meaning.

Sin
It all comes back to sin. Adam and Eve sinned, so pain was brought into the world. Read the first couple chapters in Genesis (first book of the Bible) it will tell you the answer to your question. I don't have the time right now, to find the exact chapter/verse and all. hope it helps...

Life
The point of all living things is to live; to survive.

It doesnt...
cancer doesnt HAVE to exist... it just DOES.... no disease or ailment HAS to exist... they just do....
just like you dont HAVE to exist... but you still are, i am guessing, under the impression that you do exist... but is there a fundamental law that dictates that you have to exist? probly not...
nothing in this life has a fundamental purpose or reason... purpose is assigned by entities that interact with an object, not the object itself...
