Do violent and messed up people make messed up and violent films, or do violent and messed up films make violent, messed up people?

Do you think that people make movies from dreams that have, or simply they are disturbed? The creator of SAW, for example. Now was he disturbed and made the film, or did he see another film and became disturbed? Want opinions on this.

You offer a flawed dichotomy and an unsupported causality - and you expect us to give serious answers?

I think people will have drinks with disturbing realities and make films, these films influence others who have a potentially unstable mind and may 'reinact' the film.
    This is my thoughts anyway.

  • Hmm
I think the Ideas needed to come from somewhere. Yes there is imagination. Movies, books and TV shows can be fictional, non-fictional or a little in between. But everything had to be based off a little bit of reality.

Take the Disney film Dumbo, for instance. Its about A baby elephant who dreams of flying. In the movie, he does eventually end up flying. But the idea came from the fact that elephants can't actually fly. Funny enough, elephants are probably one of the last mammels you'd even think about being able to fly. lol

Anyway,to try and answer your question a little better:

Its very possible that the creator/writer of the SAW franchise could have been a little disturbed himself, or could have been influenced by other movies. But its also very possible that he could have been influenced by things that have actually happened. Or a big combination of all of those. lol

  • all of the above
Its a bunch of things, from wanting to get what's inside your head out, to just giving the people what they want to see.

    basically, this

  • not necessarily either
that's like asking if dogs make films about dogs , and horses , films abut horses, If they had the equipment, and mentality , I suppose they could , but not limited to.

but I think there was a prominent serial killer who was inspired by his uncle's stories of Vietnam.

I would be willing to bet the numbers of those influenced by violence, through various media outlets, to hurt or kill someone (no matter which media outlet) FAR exceeds any possible influence by war stories.

No I don't think violent films make so-called messed-up people but yeah, I'd say those films influnence the hell out of them.

It is ironic that Conservatives blame violent media for the disturbance in teens and such, yet they encourage you to go off to war, to witness and consume violence. I can't recall the name of the guy, but I think there was a prominent serial killer who was inspired by his uncle's stories of Vietnam.

Personally, I think the disturbance is something deeply rooted or inherent in the individual.

  • I don't think so.
No. You don't have to let whatever happens in your life affect the way you do things.

I don't know if it is as simple as that but that's just my opinion.

People like seeing gory movies. They sell. People like seeing gory movies because there's something new and different to it. It's exciting. That is why people make messed up movies.

Gay.nooffense.But Movies don't make a persons personality its also included with passion and what ur into....for instance when a person has a dream about a snake they don't go and make a movie about it unless it was something they were passionate about sharing with the world...does this make any sense

  • I don't know
some people grow up to be serial killers because of a bad child hood, or they go through a traumatizing time in there life like fighting in a war and they get all disturbed, and maybe a person went crazy and started killing people for fun. but i really don't think a movie can make a person do crazy and violent things.

and people who make violent film might be a little off but there not crazy they just think differently.

There are few things that can cause you to go off the deep end and kill other people.

Movies even gore filled ones are not going to make some one commit a crime. The people who become Serial killers are normally very disturbed to begain with. There was a study down that has linked abuse of animals with the potental to become a serial killer.

Child abuse is a leading factor as well a major trauma. There is also a idea that some people like serial killers can empthize with the people they hurt and kill.

I remember a few Murders that have happened in Alaska.Where the first happened when I was really young I remember being apart of the search for a missing teenage girl who disappared from the mall. The two boys who killed her did so because she told one no on a date. The raped and killed her.

The other one happened in 99 and was odd because I knew the killers.Matter of fact I had seen them the night of the murder.Again it was two teen males but the added factor was the 35 year old male who had egged the younger men on.

A cab driver was the Victum. He was also a known drug dealer who used his cab to sell the drugs. The two younger males had witnessed him try to sell to their younger sister and planed to beat him down for it.

The 35 year old male pulled the knife and killed the cab driver. They are all in jail now.

You never would have thought that the 35 year old male who taught Martial arts and was a respected member of the community would not only commit a crime but lead two young men into it.

That is the one reason that killers can be scary. You could live or work with a killer and never know it.Serial killers don't look any diffrent from you or me.Any one could be a killer or rapeist or pedifile. There is no out ward sign to give fair warning.

Like many people out there I sometimes wonder just how many time bombs are waiting to kill.
