I think that It should be legalized for the simple fact that it has been proven to help cancer patience and its legal for them to have it. But for anyonelse to have it, it is totally against the law. I think that If it doesn't kill you then you shuld be able to do it.

Not as bad as some think22% Voted for by BecomingCold, rubytearsfall, Weydon, Richard Peters, petethemeat. (10 total)
I have been smoking majiuana for two years and have never had a problem with it. Comopared to most other drugs legal and illegal it really is not all that bad. There are so many myths about it that people are confused about what it is and what it can do to help people. My grandfather was diagnosed with bone cancer and my dad had him start smoking weed, he began to eat more and sleep more. If he had continued smoking it he may have lived for another five years. Cannabis can be used for many things besides recreation. It can be used to make cloth, paper, fuel and medicine. The list of diseases which cannabis can be used for includes: multiple sclerosis, cancer treatment, AIDS (and AIDS treatment), glaucoma, depression, epilepsy, migraine headaches, asthma, pruritis, sclerodoma, severe pain, and dystonia. As a recreational drug majiuana is not as bad as most think. It does not cause brain damage as many think but when under the influance you may act like you do have brain damage but there are no long term effects. There are no reported over doses caused from majiuana but just like any substance it is possible to be allergic to it. Smoking majiuana is also not as bad for you as cigarettes. Majiuana users usually don’t chain smoke and the more potent it is the less they will need and use. The nicotine in cigarettes (which is not in majiuana) can harden your atteries and cause you cancer. The THC in majiuana acts like a cough drop and open us your throat. Nicotine does just the opposite; it makes your lungs bunch up and makes it harder to cough anything up. There are also no withdrawl symptons even after heavy use and it is not physically addictive and most users can easily quit.

Pay of the national debt with taxes from pot you jerks.15% Voted for by mridontevnknowu, Weydon, petethemeat, spanner, me alone. (7 total)
If pot was legal and the goverment taxed it we could pay of our 9 trillion dollar debt in half the time. Imagine a single plant can produce around depending on many things 1 ounce of pot. 1 ounce converts to i believe it to be around 28 grams of pot. The region I'm from sell 1 gram for 10$ depending on potency, 10 dollars is for one step below the best ive ever seen. So lets call it a 10% tax nation wide on all pot. Every individual gram would be sold at 10$ with a 10% tax. Thats one dollar on every bag. From my experiance the average pot head smokes 10$ worth of pot a day. I would say 45% of my highschool class smoked. Many of them got in trouble for it landing them in jail or some other punishment. My class was around 600 students so 270 students smoked pot daily. Spending 10$ a day if it was taxed thats 270 dollars everyday going to the goverment. From one grade in one highschool. Imagine that nation wide. IF we got bush out of office who has made the debt bigger since being in office. Made pot legal with a 10% tax rate. Do it jamican style so its illegal to sell it personally. Have it goverment only is allowed to sell. Comes in the standard "crack sack" it does now. It would create more goverment jobs for people to sell it. It would create goverment jobs to package it, to grow it, to maintain the land and the farm its at. Secruity against those who would no doubt try and run into fields and steal the pot. Having pot illegal is pointless. We spend money on catching those with it. Keeping those in jail who got caught with it. I firmly believe that if pot was legalized our country would take a much needed turn for the better.

LEGALISE IT!11% Voted for by -xxstitchesxx-, Weydon, petethemeat, spanner, Benedictum.
Legalising marajiuana would be the biggest step in the right direction. The goverment has legalised alcohol and cigarrettes and put a 300% tax on them, more people die from smoking and drinking driving than any murders, drug overdoses, shark attacks and alien abductions put together. And yet the drug that has not one record of death due to usage is illegal. Pot is less addictive and has been proven to have no ties to CAUSING mental disorders. Any intake of ANY drug including the legalised drugs would have an effect on a mind that was disorderly, so lighten up on marajiuana. Look at countries like amsterdamn and canada...you dont see them blowing people up and having wars. They are way to mellow. I have even heard of an account at i think what was euro 2004 soccer game where they let personal use of marajiunana at the statium and it was the first year in 14 where there was not ONE riot.

Junk food for thoughtMy Man, your man, Lester Grinspoon11% Voted for by frndofyaweh, Weydon, petethemeat, me alone, Disturbia Notorious.
Have read his books in two public libraries over the years. This is a fellow who uses private funding to do his Marijuana research. THAT IS very important.
The bulk of other studies are funded by government grants, that require their conditions on the study to be met during the process, in order to continue the funding. Can you say, "Bias Findings"?
Marijuana is currently being studied for it's benefits in ADD and HD children. FINALLY! I've been trying to tell people this for 20 years now. I suffer from ADD and you may notice that, I must frequently edit my material on this forum. That is not because I am second guessing myself. it's because I cannot control my wondering mind.
You may also notice that often I have brief moments of clarity, as if I am someone else entirely. That is one of the side-effects of ADD. ADD is usually found in children who are of a genious level IQ and they do have moments of photographic thought. My IQ is clocked at 142, which is low level genious, or so some tell me.
Marijuana studies that are legitimately preformed do agree on several facts.
Here are some real facts on Marijuanas physical effects:
1. Marijuana does NOT cause cancer
2. Marijuana enables the mind to focus on singular subjects, without wandering off on other tangeants.
3. Marijuana has never been linked to any birth defects at all.
4. Second hand smoke from Marijuana cigarettes does not cause cancer or any other major health problems, this includes Emphazema. If you burn leaves in the fall(some places still allow it) You are inhaling worse carcynogens from that action, than from Marijuana smoke.
5. A study done by the Nevada State Highway Patrol concluded that, those under the influence of THC were more likely to avoid an accident, than those who were completely sober. Those who had drunk alcohol in the study completely failed.
6. It is physically impossible to over-dose on Marijuana in it's natural form. It would take several pounds of it to be smoked, within one hours time.
5 pounds of marijuana=80 ounces=3,840 Marijuana cigarettes. I think my lungs would explode before I got through the first ounce. -
Damaging; Legalized6% Voted for by RiseFromThyAshes, 5th position Gb, ohsweetie2788.
Majiuana is a damaging drug. It harms your body. If you want a healthly life than I don't reccomend you do a lot of drugs.
Though I think that it should be legalized. Why you may ask? Since I have just said how it damages bodies. Well, that is 'cause I think everyone should be able to choose. And because drugs don't harm anyone but yourself. I know that you can harm someone when you are under its influence. But the drug isn't the one that did the crime. The person is. So I think that drugs in general should be legalized but when you are under the influence whatever you do, you are held for as if you were sober. Since it was YOUR choice. So.. yeah.

It was until 1964!! But Capitalism can't conquer it!6% Voted for by katchi, Weydon, spanner.
Let me just say that if cigarettes are legal, and alcohol is legal, then you should be able to smoke all the weed in the world. I have heard of people fighting over cigarettes. I have never EVER heard of anyone breaking into a house to steal for weed. Most DUI's are alcohol related. There are no physical side effects of withdrawl, so you can quit anytime. (And start up anytime) You can put it in brownies!!! And cookies!!! And Salads!!! It is a natural herb from the ground that if DA MAN would just leave folks alone, I would grow in my own back yard next to the squash and the greens and the tomatos. But since the government can't control it if it is legalized, then alas, it will never be legal, because even those who abhor smoke will find non-smoking uses for it and will try to grow it in their own back yard..

Doesn't really matter4% Voted for by kristenlianne, looking4realtruth.
It doesn't really matter if you legalize it or not, Pot is one of those drugs that almost everyone has done, or does, if you do it, you aren't going to stop legal or not. If it were to get legalized, honestly less people would probably do it. It's like turning 21 and being aloud to drink, it is just a lot more fun when you know you aren't supposed to be doing it. Pot is just too easy to get, and has way too many users. Pot doesn't need to be made legal if you know how to smoke and get away with it. The punishment for getting caught is practically a slap on the wrist anyways!

My opinionI have no hard facts, only life experience, most of my friends smoke weed, but they are in good health and are in AP and honors classes. I don't see the harm in marijuana, I think it should be legalized.4% Voted for by CrazyRebel, Weydon.

there are pros and consVoted for by tmztcapt01.
yeah i can see the good and the bad of leaglizing or decriminalizing drugs such as marijuana. Good- drugs help ppl with different medical problems such as cancer cataracts and MS. it also helps ppl with bipolar and anger management problems. When a bipolar person smokes he/she becomes more stable and can take confrontation alot better than any drug ive ever been prescribed and its the same with anger management. There would also be alot less ppl in jails for possesion with petty amounts which would save our country money. Bad- Marijuana does have alot more carcinogens then tobacco which will cause more deaths. Marijuana makes u also not care which as someone mentioned above will cause alot of unemployment and child neglect. Also when u dont have marijuana after using and not feeling for so long those emotions come back up u were trying to surpress and the smallest thing can set u off in a heartbeat. Unlike someone mentioned marijuana usually doesnt lead to using harder drugs such as LSD and MDMA. Usually the only time weed is a gateway drug is when a heavy user quits using then relapses and finds out he/she wants a better high. I am an addict and alcoholic and compared to the drugs ive used marijuana is nothing. i can see the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana but to me the cons outweigh the pros.

Medical ReasonsOkay, first I'd like to say something. Over half of these choices on here are the SAME THING! They should be comments, not actual choices to vote on. Follow the rules people.Voted for by Blaze1616.
Now, I believe that marijuana should be legalized, but for medical reasons. As tmztcapt01 said, "The cons outweigh the pros", but from a medical standpoint, patients could benefit largley from marijuana. That's why I believe it should be legalized only for medical purposes, when prescribed by a doctor, and to be used at a hospital. Patients who suffer increased amounts of pain, and/or have certain problems as tmztcapt01 stated, can get rid of the stress and whatnot with marijuana.
With the drug being legalized for medical purposes only, a lot of the pros come true without the cons. For example, all the job openings would become apparent, and as mridontevenknowu pointed out, the government could sell it to hospitals and whatnot, and we can take tax income from it.
I do not do any drugs personally, and have never tried them. My opinion is just that Marijuana should be legalized, but only for medical purposes. -
moderationPot may be bad for you when you smoke it quite a bit, but alcohol does you in as well. bUt in moderation both are fine. So do like the dutch and make legal, but only in small amountsVoted for by spanner.

stop worryingVoted for by Carlos The Barlos.
OH man but this one time, I was caught smoking by some cop here in Canada and he totally tried to charge me. but i was soooo stoned. hahaha and then we tried to run away and it was a really awesome scene except he had a bike and he so easily caught us. heh, slef-righteous sobriety: pot's enemy. But still, pot is awesome.
The only way pot is bad is because we're allowing people to misuse everything they do. war for oil - please. What's so wrong about pot, then?

This is Stupid... Keep it Illegalized.Voted for by Frail Braid.
Everyone is missing the point here concerning health. One joint of weed every day for just 5 days has as much cancer-causing chemicals as 1 pack of cigarettes every day for 7 days.
Weed makes people LAZY. I'm not saying that's a bad thing in physically ill people who need it (medicinal purposes,) but for SOCIETY TO HAVE IT WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE?! Oh, you'd see consequences elsewhere. The job situation in America would plummet. DOES ANYONE ON THIS FORUM THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?!?! Children are not play-things. They are not something to be ignored or told to "Just go away." Children who's parents smoke weed are more likely to be neglected. People who smoke weed are less intelligent, are more prone to going onto stronger drugs (such as cocaine, crack, LSD, etc.etc. Everybody knows others), lose jobs, and would STILL lose them because of the lack of work ethic/work endurance.
There's a REASON it's illegal. If the hippies couldn't do it, don't expect that you all will be able to.
