Nasa has an idea for a new way of space travel in the near future if it is feasible. When my colleagues first explained the concept to me, I thought that they were making it all up. They said that there is an idea for space elevator. Check it out at "http://trs.nis.nasa.gov/archive/00000535/"

If it is possibleVoted for by wonton.
If it is possible in the near future, how much will it cost to construct. I believe that this will be an incredible break through in transportation. The space elevator, I think this is the first step toward, what will eventually become known as "spaceports." This will be a great accomplishment if done.

a space elevator? i mean it sounds like a good idea but imagine this thing being constructed and then due to a terrorist attack it's destroyed, what happens when everything and everyone in the space elevator is suddenly exposed to the hostilities of the outside environment -
Good ideaI think it is a good idea. The most difficult and expensive part of space travel is breaking through the earths atmosphere, and if a reliable re-usable system like a space elevator came into effect it would make space travel a lot more conventional. Like wonton said, space ports are probably the next step.Voted for by petethemeat.
The problem lies in finding a material strong enough to support such an incredible structure. I believe they are not at creating some kind of nano fibres or soemthing but at the moment this process is too expensive. -
The future is now...We didn't have TV, Radio, Phones, Computers, Cars, Electricity, Light Bulbs, airplanes, internet, and Digital ClocksVoted for by dollar.
about 80 years ago. We have made more progress in the past 100 years than all the years combined that humans walked the earth and the progress is only speeding up as time goes by.
Keeping all this in mind what do you figure the world will be like in another 15 years.
Surely it will be possible to use this form of space travel in the future. I think the future is a lot closer than any of us can possibly imagine.
