The female body is beautiful, and just because it isn't painted by someone doesn't mean it isn't a work of art. Everything in life is a work of art because everything has beauty in it. Art isn't just something on a canvas, it is a part of life.

I agree with unwarrywonderer on this one. It is not technically a work of art. Although, if you consider humans to have been created by a higher power, then the human body could be thought of as art. Apart from that, though, the body can be thought of a beautiful and wondrous and amazing and inspirational.. and pretty much everything else we describe art as. But it can not *technically* be considered art.

I can't agree, to much evidence against it13% Voted for by SleepyKitty, justonewish.
I'm sorry ladies but I just can't consider it a work of art.
Reason 1: I can't consider something that you are born with as a "Work Of Art", Great you were born with two breasts and a female reproductive system, woopie, so are 10,000,000 other women.
Reason 2: By definition A, "Work Of Art": Human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature.
1.The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium. 2. The study of these activities. 3. The product of these activities; human works of beauty considered as a group. 4. High quality of conception or execution, as found in works of beauty; aesthetic value. 5. A field or category of art, such as music, ballet, or literature. 6. A nonscientific branch of learning; one of the liberal arts.
7. A system of principles and methods employed in the performance of a set of activities: the art of building. 8. A trade or craft that applies such a system of principles and methods: the art of the lexicographer.
9. Skill that is attained by study, practice, or observation: the art of the baker; the blacksmith's art. 10. Skill arising from the exercise of intuitive faculties: “Self-criticism is an art not many are qualified to practice” (Joyce Carol Oates).
Hmmm, doesn't say anything about a person as being a work of art, In fact it only says that a person within a medium can be considered a work of art.
And that Goes for males as well, no one can be considered a work of art.

everyone!13% Voted for by star-filled-sky, redbrita.
every single person is a work of art, modelled and shaped and painted and crafted by society and friends and family and the individual's thoughts. the female body reflects this in a shallow way, moreso for lovers or life-drawers i guess.

It can be ART, and it cant be! It is whatever you want it to be! Like music, every sound can be Music!

what makes something a work of art is subjective. therefore, seeing the female body as such is as well.

Beautiful? Yes! Art? No.Voted for by Eye-Beam.
The human body is nature, my friends. A painting or sculpture of it is art. Art is abstracted from nature and it is filtered through human perception. In my perception women are frequently beautiful. When they pose for me I make them art.

just wondering
I love human psychology and I'm going to tally male and females opinions against or if possible although rare agreeing with me. And I would like to know if you are a male or female if you don't wish to answer this question simply ignore it.May 30, 2005

Thanks for making art less meaningful
If everything is art, then nothing is art. The word art loses its ability to communicate a specific idea. Have some respect for precision. Realize that art means something that was created and that beauty and art are not one and the same thing.January 22, 2006
