Can any government ever achieve the aims of peace, freedom and equality for all?

Government's claim that they are in place to achieve (or maintain) peace, freedom and equality for all. Yet, because peace, freedom and equality coming about would eliminate any need for government can a government's true aims ever be what they claim?

  • sure

In general anything is possible - we will need the gvt for logistics - regulating, road building, social services and such. I should point out that different people can have different views on what peace, freedom and equality really mean so pleasing everyone would be impossible, but I don't feel that the government would stall their efforts for fear that the govt wouldnt be needed anymore.

  • Not if Humans Rule It

Humanity in general is simply too flawed to get along. No governing body can simply say "Okay, all of us like all of them, and that's that." Somewhere there will be ignorant or prejudiced or bigoted people who are simply too set in their ways to even attempt to accept those who they previously saw as their enemy.

  • The Balance Must Exist

    No.

Utopia, is nothing but an idle fantasy, and a bad one at that. War, Death, Slavery, and unequality are nessecary to establish a negative spectrum in things. This negative spectrum is as important as the positive, and one cannot exist without the existance of the other. A balance must always exist in everything. Imagine a world without war etc.; everyone would have to agree on everything and everyone would have to be exactly the same, any difference or anamoly would constitute reason for prejudice and conflict, and ultimately war. And the opposition of that would be complete chaos (anarchy). So even though these atrocities namely war and genocide exist they are need to balance out the equasion that is reality.

  • Of course not

Government is coercion by nature. At best, it's something the people who get it can use to keep those who don't from making too much trouble. At worst, it's something those who are in it use to steal from those who aren't. History shows that all governments so far tend toward the worse end.
