I Just Don’t Get It. There’s no HARD evidence that God is there. Yeah, I know … the Bible, but … in the Bible, God talked to people on a regular basis. It’s like every time they turned around God was telling somebody to build an ark or to go somewhere really far away or lead somebody into some kind of something.
When has God actually talked to somebody lately? Don’t you think one of these hard christians would hear from him every once and a while? Shouldn’t he be keeping in touch? Don’t you think that somebody who really believed would hear something and go “Okay. Everybody listen up … God said ….” but no. I haven’t heard of ANYBODY like that and if we had the kind of christian community everybody thinks, people would listen and follow that nut-job who heard God talk. Right? And, I’ve heard “You just need faith.” so many times that it’s going to start coming out of my ass soon! So, don’t give me that. I want the HARD evidence. Like, FACTS, not beliefs. I want you to PROVE it to me!!!
This all goes back to the “I’ll believe it when I see it” thing. I’m SO over being scared into believeing that if I don’t trust the people who get up every Sunday morning and get all dressed up to go sit on hard benches, then my ass is going to hell! I’m not fixing to buy into the “You’re evil! You’re going to burn for eternity! God’s going to frown upon you if you don’t ask him into your heart!” anymore! i want PROOF!
...Astonish Me!

The Bible is like a loop hole, it says to believe it just becuase it says so. Why am I believing this??? Most christians say you just have to believe, believe in what?! Some radom book written by man. How could The Bible still be 100% true after being translated and passed down. If I see “Jesus” then I will believe, ‘till then I am agnostic.

Ok, proof that God exsist…look in the mirror, because if God didn’t exsist, you wouldnt be here right now, he wouldn’t have made Adam, and without Adam he couldnt have made Eve therefore…NO HUMAN EXISTANCE! theres your proof

I don’t think anyone can “PROVE IT” in a way that you are looking for. No such thing as a tangible proof of God. That is like asking me to PROVE that you and I exist. It’s black and white. Either you believe by faith or you don’t believe at all. And I can assure you that no one will be able to give you what you are looking for because it can’t be proven (I don’t think).

Can one really prove ANYTHING at all? Maybe life is an illusion. If that be the case, then, who are we? What is our origin? Who created us? I’m agnostic, which means I’m in between belief. I believe in a creator, but if they’re watching and helping us, I certainly haven’t seen it. Keep an open mind, and you’ll most certainly find what you’re looking for.

Proof (well sort of)4% Voted for by concrete sky, ohsweetie970.
I know the feeling. I’ve been thinking about the same. And while I believe life is a pursuit of truth (or should be anyway) there are some things we will never have proof on. Some things will never be validated, yet that doesn’t disprove them. How many scientific theories do we believe in in spite of the fact a theory can’t be proven? It can be diproven, but not proven. Same with God. Has He been disproven yet? Do we have proof He desn’t exist? But aside from that, the one thing that makes me believe is the fact that everything has an originator. I can’t think of anything which hasn’t been created by something or someone. But who created all the people and things which have created? Wouldn’t there have to be someone who alway was, who never had a Creator, someone who defies human understanding? I think so. There are many other questions I still have, but I am content to believe there is a God, if for no other reason than this.

I’m right there with you. I’ve been brought up catholic but I can’t help challenging those beliefs and I’ve actually ended up throwing some of them out. (I know I know blasphemer) Even the Bible is regarded as just literature in many cases. God didn’t write the Bible (nor did he translate it no matter what King James says) and so the Bible could just be a novel from long ago. And yet I can’t help believing the acts written about in there. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a rampant Christian, but its probably my upbringing. If science could prove something. If they had proof a flood covered the earth and only 2 of each animal survived then I’d be a believer.

Here's a little proof...4% Voted for by ohsweetie970, Mechanical Angel.
That is the weird thing, people have tried to proove it. They supposedly found Noah’s Ark or ship or whatever—I saw that on the History Channel (great channel by the way). BUT the question is, who put it there…!? Noah, or people so Jesus Crazy that they made it all up and showed the people who put it on TV?
Personally, I’m agnostic so I’m not for or against anything… I myself also just want proof.

Some Logic that May Bring Comfort4% Voted for by HeighHo, ohsweetie970.
If you saw God before knowing him, do you suppose you would be able to take your sight of him as proof? There are a few reasons why you don’t really wan’t emprical evidence of God. And there is a way to know God without it.
First, ponder breifly what has happened to the way we think in the last few centuries. Take as an example some of the topics on this site. Many of them deal with the horrifying question that postmodern people can’t escape from: what is real? And how do I know it’s real? What if someone else sees it the different way? In fact, shouldn’t I assume that EVERYONE sees it their own way? And aren’t I supposed to accept everyone’s viewpoint as valid and no one’s perception, including my own, as true? The point is, a vision would not bring you to belief in God. You would not find yourself able to believe in God simply because you saw a visual representation of God or heard an unexplained voice.
Secondly, pop christianity has seriously distorted what it is that God requires of people in the effort to make easy converts (the same reason they use fear). You apparently think that what is required of you is to posit credibility in the existance of God. Actually what happens to people when they are converted is something far deeper and more reasonable. I’ll compare it to “recognizing” someone rather than “believing something”.
What people don’t understand about the believing thing is that in the Bible it has to do, not with entering into religion but with living with it when you already have it. Basically the biblical teaching is that God is trustworthy. He’s the kind of God who, if it’s him you’re depending on, he’ll never let you down. That’s the whole faith deal.
The becoming a christian deal is more like changing sides. At the point when you have to decide, the question usually isn’t “is God there”, but rather, “what side do I want to be on?” When you get to that point certain convictions have formed in you heart, through words or circumstances or whatever God chooses to use. (“The spirit of truth will convince the world about sin, and righteousness, and judgment, Christ prophesied. The method is his own and is simply more effective. As Paul explained, “The foolishness of God is wiser than men”.) When you reach the point of decision you have formed convictions about yourself – you understand, not believe, that you are not your own, to do with as you please. You did not make yourself and you do not keep youself alive. This one decision is yours – whether to run afoul of reality – of goodness – or to love it and submit to it. You understand, with a very new kind of sorrow, what purity is, and that you do not have it and that Jesus does. You understand with settled finality that nowhere is there help for you in any diet of religious meditation or feast of religious duties or rigor of religious requirements. You have become poor in spirit and the only thing that will help you get to God and be accepted by him and bring your own heart to accept him for the great and delightful Good that he is – is the sacrifice. Not yours, you have nothing to offer. The only thing that will do is the sacrifice of Christ – the time when God paid the debt for which he was supposed to exact payment himself, as judge of the world. You accept, recieve, are convinced, understand, love, hope, trust, repent, turn, give in – all these things. The one thing you will not be worried about is giving anything to God – not even your intellectual approval. It is this fact – the cross, Jesus being the final, holy sacrifice for the sins of the people, which Paul said was a wisdom which not even the wise of this world can understand. God reveals it – to whomever he will. (Read 1 Cor. 1-2)
Which brings me to my final bit of reasoning. Because when you have accepted Christ and the God he explained in his very flesh, you will find your intellect satisfied. You will be reading the Bible and you will realize that the whole world makes sense. The reason for this is very logical – it is the same reason why you will never get “proof” of God. It is that God by very definition, is The Starting Point – the Most Foudnational Fact. He can never be a conclusion because nothing leads to him – it all comes from him. You intellect will finally be satisfied when your reasoning processes all start with God. I say this as one to whom life makes sense, in a world where most others seem to be confused. I wish the same peace and comfort for you, friend. My advice is simply that you humble yourself and seek him. The road ahead is dangerous with decisions of vast weight and consequence.

Why does everyone concern themselves with the question of a tangible existence of a deity? Regardless of whether you have knowledge of whether it exists or not is likely to little influence your life. My advice would be to just make the best of life as you see it in front of you. I find that, in a search for longevity, helping people will aid it, as opposed to hurting people, which would hinder it. Certainly you could apathetic towards others, what what good shall that do if you live your life alone and sad? Live your life. Do not constantly look over your shoulder praying not to get smitten. Peace out. 1462.

I'm sure you'll get your proofVoted for by Mary O.
I’m sure you’ll get your proof first hand as my mother did when she, an atheist, challenged the existence of God. As a result she came face to face with Jesus in her own bedroom. Without going into details as I’ve told the story here before; I was 5 at the time and the next thing I remember is that we kids were all marched down to the church baptismal fount. Took five people to hold me down as I knew the priest was going to drown me in that endless fount of water.

Andf that is the final evidence. Not that It is proven through society, but that it has changed you personality. That the Bible isn't just good teaching, but It is the Word of God, and that it can relate to you and help you. That is how many Atheists come to know Christ.
