Putting the bible in context

I've heard a lot of people say that God's word is the bible and you can't have God without the bible and things like that. Well, I don't think they are truly putting the bible in context.

  • Historical document

I have a relationship with God outside of any church or code of behavior and recently outside of the bible. I realized that everything in the Bible except for the story of creation, the fact that God loves us, the things Jesus said, and the predictions of the future that are supposed to apply to this or a near generation, are just a historical document of things that happened specifically too and were done specifically for the ancient generations recorded in it.

Yet the christian church takes all those old laws and rules and applies them to us when none of them were meant for us. I know I'm opening the door for tons and tons of criticizm here. But I find that my biggest problem is not weather God exists or not, because I know He does, it's weather the church and others who believe in Him are representing Him properly according to what he's telling each of us sepereately and individually today (which you'll find a completely different and unique message according to us and our path in life than from anyone else) or weather their just telling us the same old junk from two thousand years ago that doesn't even apply to us now in general. In fact I've found that a lot of other cultures and religions and mythology in the studying I do, and metaphysics and Astrology which are completely ignored by the church has actually helped further and broaden myself spiritually and I'm listening to the Now God as I like to call Him instead of the proverbial two thousand year ago one.

My debate here is not weather God exists or not, it's more about what you think of the bible and the foundation of the christian religion.
