What is the point to the concept of religion?

What do you think spurred the concept of religion?

  • Necessity

Religion is a necessary thing for society. Not for every individual person, there are some like myself who feel that religion is not needed in their lives, but I do not believe that society as a whole could funtion without a religion in some form. People need to be reassured that there is something after death for them. Religion is like a comfort blanket, it's always there when you need it. The god of a religion, whoever it happens to be, is someone who can't fight back when you yell at him-her. God is there to blame for everything that goes wrong in your life, and if people did not have that, they would probably be swept up in the uselessness of it all, because what's the point of doing anything is you're just going to die and that's it?

Anyways, like I said, religion came about just because people needed a scapegoat and reassurance. Nothing more.
