Sickening.20% Voted for by BabyMowgli, haikumonk, Morgaine, Aislinn-Marie, redbrita. (6 total)
Quite honestly, it makes me sick to my stomach to see nearly half the people putting complete and blind obedience towards something whose existence matters little. “god will provide” “God is love, and when I have god I have love.” blah blah blah, to put it candidly. Why does everyone assign such amazing attributes to something that is just as I prescribed it, blind faith? I can understand people who are religious, but most of the time the exemption is only made for the thinking theist. I do not understand why people can give up, or atleast subdue, their religous rodomontades and seek the ultimate satisfaction: living in the present. Too many times have I heard of some deity who was bound to fulfill spiritual promises, but they are always far into the future. While you all live in the future or past, I dwell in the Present, and what a fair tenenement it is! The vernal bliss I experience every day knowing that this is my life I live, not any other things or persons or beings, but mine. I have created my foundation on solid rock. Impenetrable rock, while nearly every once attempts to put it on mere wisps. I am not calling for a conversion to any religious affiliation. What I am calling for is a mental liberalism. A patience with every day life. Do not seek refuge with deities. Try to live your life the way God wanted you to. In the present, with what was in front of you. Certainly contemplate, deliberate, question, but do not take that leap off the sheer crag. You know what lies at the bottom.

Defense Mechanism16% Voted for by Kevin, Doll-Face-, J A McCaw, redbrita, ohsweetie2788.
God is just a defense mechanism used by the human mind, so that we can sleep at night. It is much easier to stare at the ceiling dreaming about heaven, than wondering what happens when we die. In the words of Karl Marx “Religion is the opiate of the masses.”

Blind faith was invented to put people at ease. To give them assurance that as long as you believe in it, everything we’ll be alright. Well, people need to be realistic and not just live in a world of ignorance.

Question, Learn10% Voted for by BabyMowgli, ShockinglyCute, redbrita.
of course noone can be all knowing, but you can try to learn and understand for yourself. if everyone just blindly believed what they were told, we would think that the earth was flat and in the center of the universe! how do you think people found these things out? they QUESTIONED. i believe that is they key to human advancement.

Blind faith vs. Faith in general6% Voted for by Energizer Bunny, justonewish.
Just to clarify for all of you who comment on how believing in God is silly because it is ‘blind faith’...
Believeing in God is not BLIND faith, but rather just faith. Had you never heard of God or thought of the concept and then randomly just decided to, that would be blind faith.. but there is evidence that points to God’s existance, although not specifically proving it. That is why faith in God is not blind, but rather just faith in general.
I think that keeping away from arguing about God (for once) could be a good decision for the sake of this topic.

Faith is not a given6% Voted for by Mary O, willowstear.
One either posesses faith, blind or no. How blessed those with blind faith. Such as a child who completely trust his or her parents this one with blind faith is a treasure onto God. My mother had to see Jesus face to face in order turn from atheism and consequently believe. I believe out of faith, yes, blind faith. Faith is the walls on each side of the bridge to Heaven which holds us stready and firm from falling into the ragging waters below from whence we come. Hope is the first step one takes, out of blind faith, from the torrent waters, the step which leads to God. Where hope in all good things to come becomes strong we step up to the second step, Charity/Humility, whereby we conceed to love of God and our fellow man over and above self glorification/pride. Love for all reigns on this step and confidence is the treasure found here. Where hope and charity become strong faith reigns and stands along side the final step up onto the bridge leading to Heaven assuring our way to life with God who is Love perfect for all eternity.

We can’t be all-knowing, and in some instances blind faith as a tool is useful.

Faith and Knowledge6% Voted for by La Belle Rouge, redbrita.
God would not be disappointed in anyone who questions everything in order to arrive at the truth. Those who never question never learn. Blind faith is just that, blind. It’s sad all the people who are deceived simply because they have blindly accepted what someone else told them they should believe. I think only the spiritually alive question and find answers.

all you can do is rely on blind faith to pull you through tough times, but to constantly believe in something who deep down you are not sure is even listening to you is a but ridiculous and pointless, i think you need to have more faith in yourself then faith in him to get through life.

We are all blind.
Those who worship a God are considered blind because there is no solid proof.
Those who question their faith are considered blind because they have not opened our eyes to see the solid proof.
Being blind is what keeps us stable. If we could see, then we would be God... All seeing, all knowing.
We see nothing, and we know nothing. This makes us Human, this is why we have a God.

Faith vs. SightVoted for by jonesz12.
2 Corinthians 5:7 "We live/walk by faith, not by sight". So what do you have faith in/believe in those of you who refuse to have a so called blind faith. Only in that which you can see. Well then you will never reach the truth and I hope you realize you cannot attain true life on your own and you turn to God and begin to have faith.

the present moment
the future is that which is not yet, the past that which is no more, therefore the present must be the nothing. the present is the fleeting reality. It does not really exist in that as soon as consciousness of it exists, it is gone. and what does this have to do with your question? well, you claimed you live in the present moment. But it quite plainly does not have true existence in that you can't prove it exists. You can't see it, touch it, or in any way contact it. The moment you say you can is when you are walking on faith. You base that faith on the objective realities of future and past. Therefore, before you go and say that people should not live in the future or in the past, make sure you're not already doing it yourself. Not trying to be offensive for I've no reason to attack. But this is logic. Logic is the only place you can or ever will find truth outside of the inconceivable.April 4, 2005

God
I don't think anyone 'seeks refuge with deities,' we all just wish that when we are in trouble there is a higher power called God who will look after us. When all else fails my dear, no matter what, you WILL turn to God. It's not blind faith. But to not take responsibility for yourself and your actions, that is blind faith.November 10, 2005
