well when you are being formed, for the first period your sex is undefined and the body will start forming all of the nessisary objects, one of these is the nipples. and thats about it.

"missing chromosome???"30% Voted for by Sachiel Hijikata, gobuggy99, DryIce808.
It's not a "missing chromosome!" Women are XX and men are XY. what the first duder said is right, that we're all "its" until about 16 weeks. then the Y chromosome kicks in for guys. now, the second guy is a little misleading. guys can lactate, but only from hormonal imbalances. actually, that sort of imbalance can be caused by starvation. there are thousands of cases of men lactating in japanese concentration camps at the end of ww2. also, i'm sure everyone knows that babies often lactate (called "witches milk" in previous times) because they are born with lots of the maternal hormones that cause the mother to lactate.

incomplete women...science teacher told me...Voted for by ohsweetie2788.
it is simple really men are just incomplete women...women have one more chromosome or something genetic then men do. so they are incomplete women they have the nipples just not the breasts...

It's because they're mammals. And did you know men can also lactate? Yes men have breasts to. Now if only society would realize there's no difference...

female defaultVoted for by redbrita.
actually it is defined. female is the neutral, everyone is female (nipples instigated) until the fetus is flushed with hormones (testosterone, then oestrogen in the brain) making them male. but that doesnt add much, the above explains it mostly

sex, naturallyVoted for by Lohengrin.
male humans have nipples for the same reason female humans have nipples (and for the same reason that female humans, unlike other mammals, maintain sizeable mammary glands continually regardless of lactation): they are erogenous zones. nipples serve to heighten sexual excitement during intimate, frontal contact between the male and female torsos. furthermore, women would find men less visually appealing if nipples were not present to act as a focal points for the apices of the pectoralis majors (pecs).

Maybe I'm wrong
I'm pretty sure I saw a show on the health channel that that said that all fetuses start out close to female, with the genetic makeup to become a certain sex. that's right, males are a genetic defect! but a really awesome one...
