Why do we hate myths?

There have always been myths, Arthur, Avalon, and many others. But it's only recently that we have began to investigate them, and disregard them as fancy. Why can't we let them be?

  • Cherish the myth

Myths have inspired people since the dawn of the first hero. They have given people courage to face their fears, and hope in human nature. It doesn't matter if they are real, the effect they have is real enough.

  • Losing cultures get Myths

While the winners get religions. Thats the way of history. If Christians were less bloody savage at wars, Jesus would be a myth and we'd still have temples for Apollo everywhere making money. People pray to winner's God, and read their children loser's god's stories.

Arthur, by the way, is a legend, not a myth.

  • Myths

I don't think all myths are just "fancy." A myth tries to explain some extraordinary phenomenon using Gods and Deities. How else would we explain something extraordinary? And we have reason to believe that the extraordinary exists because we see examples of it. If you insist it doesn't exist then where did the word extraordinary come from?

  • Question is false

We did not started to investigate myths and disregard them as "Unreal" now. The Entire greek philosophy was born with people doing it. And why ? Why not ?
