What is the meaning of life?

  • meaning of life

Why are we here? What's life all about?
Is God really real, or is there some doubt?
Well, tonight, we're going to sort it all out,
For, tonight, it's 'The Meaning of Life'.

What's the point of all this hoax?
Is it the chicken and the egg time? Are we just yolks?
Or, perhaps, we're just one of God's little jokes.
Well, ça c'est 'The Meaning of Life'.

Is life just a game where we make up the rules
While we're searching for something to say,
Or are we just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DN-- nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay.

What is life? What is our fate?
Is there a Heaven and Hell? Do we reincarnate?
Is mankind evolving, or is it too late?
Well, tonight, here's 'The Meaning of Life'.

For millions, this 'life' is a sad vale of tears,
Sitting 'round with really nothing to say
While the scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DN-- nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay.

So, just why-- why are we here,
And just what-- what-- what-- what do we fear?
Well, ce soir, for a change, it will all be made clear,
For this is 'The Meaning of Life'. C'est le sens de la vie.
This is 'The Meaning of Life'.

Here's a very cliche topic. I think it's a perspective and there's no right answer.

  • the meaning of life is
...we all have to live our own lives and find out on our own. If someone was to tell you the meaning of life then you would have nothing to live for because you are letting others determine what you should live for.

  • what i think

the meaning of life... isn't that what we all want to know? the meaning of life is different to every single person. some people think of prosperity as the meaning of life, others love. The meaning is different depending on someones experiences. My experiences show that i think the meaning of life is nothing. We grow from creatures in the sea, to demanding, selfish human beings. when you think about it, the world has evolved so much. Here we are, going through generation to generation, and it just keeps becoming about wat you look like and how much money you have. it's only going to get worse. the world has become so vien. it's like you have to be a size 6 to be accepted in the public eye, and have the perfect skin. there are so many eating disorders and people with deppression. your judged on what you look like, how much money you have rather than who you are. And when you see celebrities on tv telling us all that we should give money to the poor, what about them? they have millions and millions, but still the world holds no joy. millions homeless while they are sitting there on their private jets over looking reefs while getting smashed. the state of the world just dissapoints me. millions hate themselves, millions want to die, millions deserve a better chance, so please, don't be the stereotype, be your own person and stand up to what you think!

the meaning is, truly i guess to give life meaning, but there is more to it than that. Life, what is life? life is active material in this universe built to... do what? i guess you could say that is open to speculation. but according to buddhism, (and me) life is a resistance to existing as part of the whole. so you ask, what is the meaning of life? (and watch out this is very randian/neitsczhe-ish) to combat the waves of selflessness, that is thrown on by the non or less living, with your own brand of selfishness, whatever that may be, and in that push to find it, you discover this abstract concept 'meaning'

  • Life is a perpetual novel

Life is a perpetual novel. Everyone inserts their own chapter, bombarded by the adventures they've lived. Each chapter is essential because we learn the errors and benefits that others have made. Thus, although all the chapters are various lengths and tell various experiences, they all are significant. Like a novel, every part is related, merely modified by the lessons they learned. Also, our own morals and ideas generate our differences and our similarities. In our chapter, we must strive to have the best life we can. Who knows when our chapter will end?

  • Well, er

I'd have read all the opinions you have posted above on the subject but I would like to be i think the first to be honest, because i have spent alot of time researching and thinking about this and I have come to the grand conclusion after all this, WELL, I'M STILL NOT SURE. But i am sure that my opinions on this subject have changed throughout my life and will continue to change. As will all of yours, just in case you were one of those who thinks its simple. The other thing that I am sure of is that it does have meaning. It is also perfectly reasonable to ask this question for all you scornfull scallywaggys at the top you.

  • You really want to know?

Life is either caused by a single chemical reaction in the beginning of time, or the present state of an unbreakable chain of cause and effect that has been occuring forever.

Everything you say, do, or think is both the cause of one chemical reaction and the effct of another. This renders freewill and conciousness an illusion brought onto our state of being by these ever more complexed reactions. As for what we are. We are dense formations of billions (More like Trillions) of tiny particles of energy. These particles are called electrons, nuetrons, and protons. I am not a scientologist... So what is life? I'm not sure. Is it completley random chemical reactions all bounceing and colliding off one another? Or is it a creation of the highest power in the universe? Or maybe some other extreme; maybe an offshoot of all these theories. My guess is that it's what you make it.

  • Life...

It's about enjoying life. That's the only reason to live. Granted, this can be stretched to mean other things, as in "enjoying helping people in life", "enjoying having money in life", "enjoying doing that thing with the...well...you get my picture".

I guess this can be stretched to "enjoying bringing pain to others". But that's always countered by "enjoying playing the hero". Well sometimes it's countered.

Just do whatever you want in life. The only thing I don't believe life is for is living by someone elses rules unwillingly. Infact, doing anything against your will. That's probably the worst thing to spend your life doing. But then again sometimes you have to do what you don't want to to do what you want to. Haha I'm rambling.

  • If you are looking for a meaning....
If you are looking for the meaning of life - quote: "The other thing that I am sure of is that it does have meaning." True. There is a meaning, Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: there is water. and so forth
Quote:"It's about enjoying life. That's the only reason to live." That is not true, is the reason to live... to live for yourself? We were all born and are weak and gulity with sin. To say that Life is about enjoying life and thats the only reason to live, is the talk of a Hedonist. Pride is "the great sin" and that sin will tear you apart and keep you lost.
Quote:"life is a resistance to existing as part of the whole." whoever said that better be reading this. Life is not an resistance to part of a whole. Don't think to yourself that I do not know what you are saying, becuase that will lead you down the wrong path. There is no Whole. There has never been a whole, and if there was... then why would there be resistance? Resistance itself is nothing. If it is true that life is the reistance to the part of a whole, then there is no meaning of life. I'm not sure what Buddism teaches, but a princible such as that will leave you wandering forever in nothingness. We are all able to understand right and wrong, becuase it is set before us. Buddism does not(or might idk) teach you to follow right, the meaning of life lies with-in the facts that we know. Not what could be. Budda's dead by the way.
Quote:"The meaning of life is that life has no meaning." lol your funny
Quote: "Life is a perpetual novel. Everyone inserts their own chapter, bombarded by the adventures they've lived." There is something that is one third of the way to being almost true. There are three parts of morality, and one is with-in yourself. To fix whatever has gone wrong(I pity the person who thinks nothing has gone wrong) as in a fleet of ships, the inside of the individual ship better be working properly. The Second part is the relationship between one other, that we get along well and work with each other, and not just ourselves. Can a fleet of ships sail properly if they are bumping into each other? The Third part is the Whole and where they are going and how they will reach that place. Will people go where they are ought to be heading? Will the fleet arive in the Eastern US if they are heading east while in the atlantic? No. they will arive at europe.
Quote:"the meaning of life is different to every single person. some people think of prosperity as the meaning of life, others love. The meaning is different depending on someones experiences." Well... we do each live individual lives, however we don't live them for ourselves, as discussed earlier. Also the meaning of life, "LIFE", as in something that is one thing, cannot be different for each person. Life has one meaning, and it is the same for each person. Can a fleet of ships all arive at the US if they are all going in different dirrections?
Quote:"Life is either caused by a single chemical reaction in the beginning of time, or the present state of an unbreakable chain of cause and effect that has been occuring forever." wow... that is just saying that life has no meaning. Sort of like the theory of evolution. where the world just happened to be the way it is and we act the way we act becuase of chance. While we think that way, we become blind to what is clearly in front of us. If you open your eyes... what do you see? Light. If you see a table or a bird or a book, then... clearly they are there. But is that it? no. Becuase there is Light. Which allows us to see all those things. If you went to a store what do you buy? Groceries. Milk, eggs, bread, juice, hmm. But I want Groceries. There is something right in front of us all, and we do not need to "discover it". Take the Moral Law of right and wrong, is that because of evolution? No... the keys on the piano that we hit are distinct between the key in which we play the song. (I hope I did ok explaining this)
Quote:"Life is like an army. Every bad memory is one soldier dead every good memory is a soldier premoted." umm sure. does the army have a general?...
I would go into the something about two forces governing the universe, one right and one wrong, but I don't think I can explain it good enough. It's not true anyway.
Quote:"we all have to live our own lives and find out on our own. If someone was to tell you the meaning of life then you would have nothing to live for because you are letting others determine what you should live for." No. there is one meaning and it is crucial that you should know.
I would Quote but I don't know what to quote.

    THE MEANING OF LIFE:

The meaning of life is to live the way we were meant to live by looking towards God and seeing that we are sinners and that he forgave us of that sin. That in this world we are lost and left wondering about the meaning of life and seaching for satification. When the "Satisficaton" is living the way we were meant to through Jesus Christ. That we were created to live for God, and we do not do so. We need to start doing so, or we will keep wondering what the meaning of life is.

If I wrote that right you are probably either thinking: 1.) Wow another christain, this guy's a moron and I am not ever going to be converted! HA HA HA. 2.) how do I live for God?

if It is number 1.) then you probably never will...
if it is number 2.) The answers are in the Holy Bible and always have been. Visit a christian church.

A story about an athest who says "God protect me!" then purposely drives his truck off a cliff. then says "That is why there is no God!"
