Should Gay marriage be legalized and recognized under all governments?

• Of course it should

  Straight people can marry each other and be recognized but Gay people can not? Does that make any since? Most of us are raised to accept people of any background but for some reason Gay people don't fit into that category. Our holier than thou president says he respects all cultures but what about the Gay culture? Suddenly they're not ok. What's your opinion?

    They make a good point, though: marriage is a religious ceremony, and marriage laws in the United States reflect the Judeo-Christian marriage tradition. Now, look at the very first line of the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the practice thereof...." Clearly the first thing in our Founding Fathers' minds when they went to enumerate rights of citizens of the United States of America was that state-sponsored religion was a negative thing. Back in their day, everyone in the United States was pretty much Christian; marriage is a very old and established tradition in the Christian church, so it only seemed natural to them to make laws about marriage. That precedent has carried through to today, except there are myriad reasons why the ancient Judeo-Christian marriage traditions don't fit with modern American culture and society. In fact, all that current marriage laws do is to promote certain religious values over others. That, according to the First Amendment, is unconstitutional. Therefore, marriage laws themselves are unconstitutional and marriage as a legal institution should be abolished within the United States. Legally, everyone should get civil unions; if they want to be married, they can go to a church, and if homophobic churches choose not to marry gay couples, then... at least you can't blame the government. Polotics are complicated and stupid. Yet I enojy them anyway. Someone, please explain my mind.

    just because the only religious marriage recorded to take place was between a man and a woman doesnt mean two women never were married or that two men were never married. slavery was also ok with people back in the days of the founding fathers but we quickly changed those laws to meet needs. why is it so hard to changed them again to meet more people's needs? i hardly doubt that gay marriage will cause a massive collapse of churches world round or that millions of religious folk will fall down and die damned to hell for letting such a thing happen. i think your mind... isnt so infatuated with politics as much as its you enjoy to explain them proving their pointlessness because in most cases like you say, are wrong. so in short termage: you enjoy pointing out the flaws of politics because its not hard to do.

    I support gay marriages. I'm waiting for my fathers to be able to have a marriage instead of a "civil ceremony". I can marry my bf, but they have a civil ceremony?     The whole homosexual contraversy is based on what America was like a century ago. I was born in 1990 and I can remember when it wasn't uncommon to see two men or two women walking in the mall holding hands. It was just normal then. I'm not sure when it changed to being seen as unnormal and "wrong" but honestly, I see nothing wrong with it. I support the rights of those people who chose to live homosexually, as I have chosen that course myself. Marriage is indeed a privilage. People are stating that gay marriage should be illegal because God didn't want it that way...if God didn't want it that way, why is He allowing human beings to chose to live that way?
    Some politics can't be argued over and this is one that should just be left alone and accepted.

      He (God), is only allowing it for a short time longer. We have homosexuality because God has given us free will. It is the only way to build character in us. Having good character being defined as, knowing what is right and wrong, and doing the right.

        You're right to a certain point. God gave us free will. When Adam and Eve at of the apple, God told them to leave the Garden of Eden, giving them the free will to live elsewhere. Human race has had free will for centuries, and God knows this. If God didn't want homosexuality, he wouldn't have given us this much free will, and even if he didn't want it, he would have stopped it by now using real methods, not just all the fighting. That is not God's plan for us.

          No, you don't understand. Adam and Eve learned of good and evil by taking that fruit. God did not give it to them. And it is the same thing for the rest of mankind. They choose to decide for themselves what is right and wrong and they don't want God involved. There are only two ways. The right way (God's way) or the wrong way (everything else). You seem to believe you know what is not God's plan for us. Do you know what IS God's plan for us? If so, how do you know? And can you enlighten me? Is there anyone who can explain it to me? Is it different from what the Bible says?

            No, I understand more than you think. It is you that doesn't understand. Time has changed since the Bible was written and published. The Bible says that women should not be given any rights. The Bible shows that women are there to serve man. Is that not different from today? Did that not change in the 1800's? God is allowing us to live life how we want it. If He didn't want it this way, He would have changed it long before now. And how I know of any plans is my own business, not yours.

              Jesus said that at the time of the end it would be as it was in the times of Noah. That was that everyone would only do what they thought was right in their own eyes, not God's way. It is why God destroyed the earth with the flood.
              
              God does not change. He is the same always. There is no contradiction in Him. What was right then, is right now. Everyone has their role. God created men and women to work together. When they get married they become one flesh. As the Bible says. The man is the head of the woman as Christ is the head of the church. How do you think Jesus treats the church? Do you think He lords it over it? That He makes unreasonable demands? Christ leads the church with love, compassion, and patience and mercy. That is how the relationship between a man and woman should be.
