Dual Nature of God in the Bible

• I have a problem.

  OK, here's my problem if god is a god of love as is most certainly implied by Jesus, Then why does he spend so much time killing and saving people in the old books. If the bible is the word of god, I have a problem believing in a god who amounts to at best bad tempered and at worst psychotic. Don't get me wrong i am not judging or critising i want to hear peoples thoughts on this.

    you're only safe if you have 'faith'

    i agree with you, and i share your problem with this god. for what kind of god could be so cruel? and yet, it's basically every god in every religion. such a wonderful extraordinary being, for the people that believe in them. and for the people that aren't of that religion or faith? then they are the ones that see the cruelties of such a 'godly' being. christians believe their god to be everything, the best of the best. and yet what about the atheists? what would god do to those of us who dismiss Him? just what His followers believe He is too good to do.

      Sounds abit like do as i say 'or you'll be sleeping with the fishes' at least the ancient greeks took the belief that their gods weren't particulaly good, and were just as likely to be cruel, abit like nature. No messing around with 'God of Love stuff'

    Double Sided

    Yeah I also agree God is very double sided. The bible says to love one another yet like the battle of Jericho (apologies for spelling) Joshua and his people killed every living being; every woman, child and animal and left the land barren in the name of God, in todays terms that would be seen as genocide or something, it was people killing people. I do believe that the bible was written by men and not God! Trying to get as many followers as possible they could try to scare you to believe by threatening eternal dammnation or death. Most of the time it is not God that punishes those who dont believe, I'm pretty sure its people claiming they act through him. There is a God I'm sure and there must be a truth to it all- I just think God's words have been changed and mixed up by many people throughout history. Its good to keep an open mind.
