For some it's a coping mechanism of not FINDING love just yet, but for many it's a maintaince thing - they don't expect to stick with anyone, so just go for having fun in the meantime.
It's a big, bad world out there, and it's easy to lose hope that you'll find the right person for you. Thats why match.com and similar sites are great in my opinion, since they help you sift through the 10 million single people out there for the few that match with you.

i have thought long and hard about this a few nights ago and i have come to the conclusion that lust has not replaced love, but it is the other way around. if you think about it, every relationship (almost) starts out with you wanting to get to know the person more, or a different reason. this is lust. as time passes on lust turns to love. i even wrote a poem on it titled Lust. its an interesting theory and i hope i have answered your question

it seems like guys or girls live each day to the fullest now. they know not, if to be shot tomorrow, would thy want to live the whole nine yards? i think lust is not a form of love. like, your heart. it is never perfectly fulfilled. someone had once said, 2 daggers and a sword go though it. 2 of the 3 are family/ friends. but it is the sword that gets to you, it is your one love that you will always love. lust only replaces what you have lost, but in a sence you never gain anything either, because it isnt ever real.
