The concept of natural population control.

In evolutionary biology there is a concept called Carrying Capacity. This is the concept that in any environment the resources can only support a limited number of animals before they are depleted completely. There is a balance between the resources and the animals which use the resources. This is why most herds migrate all year long, as they migrate it allows the areas that they are not using to replenish before they go back to them. Nature has also allowed for instincts and thinning of the herds through various forms of death. In the wild, animals will kill each other over territory, mating rights, and for food. Also the weak and sick of the herd are usually the ones caught by predators. This natural population control in nature keeps the balance for resources even. There are enough animals to keep plants pruned so they grow new, healthy stocks, and there are enough predators to keep the herbivores from eating all of the plants. Each animals works through instinct to maintain this balance with nature. Each animal that is except the humans.
Humans seem to have ignored the rules of nature. We view the instincts towards population control as diseased or psychopathic. Humans have continued to grow in numbers and move into all inhabitable parts of the world. When we exceed the carrying capacity of a given area, we move on and expand to further areas. We continue to use the resources nature has provided each day without allowing them to replenish. For example, in South America the people have farmed the lands to the point that they lack the nutrients to grow crops. If there had been proper population control they would not have needed that much food to begin with. Also, the concept of starvation due to a lack of food is something we accept and see in nature every day, but for a human to starve to death is considered unnatural? So instead of working towards replenishing the land they have destroyed, and trying to control the population, the farmers in South America practice slash and burn farming. They will cut down the trees in parts of the forest, and burn all of the plant life in a set area. The burning of the pants puts a certain amount of nutrients into the already rich soil that was supporting the forest. The farmers will then move in to farm this land for food. The only problem is that the soil is only so rich and after as little as one year, or maybe a few years at best, it is as dead as the soil they left. So they move on to slash and burn yet more forest area without replanting or trying to fix the soil they ruined.
Am I promoting mass murder and killing, no. But I am promoting a move towards zero population growth, or even negative population growth. This concept was attempted in the 60’s but has failed in recent years. Zero population growth is the idea that the number of babies born each year would not exceed the number of people dying each year. Negative population growth allows that there will be more deaths in one year than there are births. If each person took responsibility towards birth control, and those who know they have devastating inherited diseases would not reproduce, we would have far fewer and much healthier people in this world, and perhaps nature would be able to survive a bit longer.
