OR are the needs and wants of society more important?

As a consumer I try to consider the environmental costVoted for by david.
I want to have a good life and I do enjoy driving my SUV, taking warm showers, traveling, hang gliding and enjoying gourmet foods, living in a house made from fresh timber.
If I need or want something, I will ask myself if it is worth the cost to the environment. Before I buy something, I'll ask myself alot of questions: Will I get enough out of something to justify the resources that were consumed in making and delivering the product? What about the financial expense? What is required to maintain the product? Will it last as long as I need it? How will it be disposed of? Do I really need it? How much happiness will it give me?

I will not needlessly harm any living creature or plantVoted for by david.
Another way that I try to minimize my negative impact is by considering the living things on the planet. I try not to needlessly harm. If a bug is going to sting me, aka a mosquito, I'll kill it cause it's either him or me (and one of my needs is not getting bitten by bugs.) Everyone does have to eat, so I will kill plants for food. But I strive for efficiency and eschew any kind of wasting. I won't cook or order more food than I need, and I feel guilty if anything goes bad or to waste. I believe in personal freedom, and I believe that the choices I make are disciplined, individual, everyday choices that lower my negative impact on the environment of the world.

Trash it all....Voted for by Launcelot.
Listen, do you really think humanity is going to survive? How much longer? For such a large animal as us, we a grossly overpopulated and gluttonous. A doomed cause really, we might as well use and enjoy what we have left. And hey, if humanity really does make it, at least youll be dead and wont have to worry about future generations right?

Take care of the environmentVoted for by invader.
By taking care of the environment we are taking care of ourselves. If we destroy it, we are only destroying ourselves. The environment is our home and it provides us with everything we need. If you continually pollute your house and let it become dirty and allow roaches and bacteria to live in it, then how can you live in that house? You will just be sick. The same goes for the environment. It is therefore logical for us to take care of the environment.

AnomaliesVoted for by judo monkey.
Humans are natural anomalies, we are the only species in current existence that destroys our own environment. of course all animals do things that could be considered destruction...eating the plants that are around them perhaps but they do it sustainably, animal populations rise and fall but ours is ever growing and because of this we are endangering our own species to extinction.
we must be more carefull with our resources, oil is going to run out soon, we dont just need crude oil to provide power and petrol we also make plastic from it, imagine a world with out plastic! so much that we have now would be lost. sure we could use would or metal instead but thats not sustainable either. but things can be done, renewable energy sources must be used...
you might not care about the environment but global warming and other issues will cause major threats to humanity.. people talk about your cildren's or your children's children's life times but it could happen in our life times.

The world is our lifeVoted for by KarmaChild.
The enviroment should be put in front of consumer needs... i mean if we took in mind the enviorment from the beggining then the prodution of goods would be inmensly greater, global warming would not even be heard of... more animals would be alive today... more medicine would be aviable (medicine comes from plants... many of which the past 200 years have disapeared off the face of the earth forever)... We take for granted the enviorment and all of its resorces... we live on the earth we should take care of it
