Prostitution

Is it right? A good way to make a living? and-what the heck- why not bring up pre-martial sex and infidelities into this?

  • Prostitution

If all countries legalised prostitution , the women would be clean and protected thus having a knock on effect.Men wouldn’t be taking home any unwanted STD’s, pimps would have to get a real job, ect ect. After all there will always be men that need their services for whatever reason. The oldest proffesion in the world, legalise it.

  • Isn't it unconsitutional to outlaw?

I agree that if you legalize it and regulate it it would be a LOT safer. And I also just don’t understand how they can outlaw it at all. It’s your body, how does ANYONE have a right to tell you what you can and cannot do with your own body? Prostitution is probably one of the oldest careers, and as long as it’s not forced I don’t think it’s wrong. A person uses what they have to get by, if that’s sex then so be it.

  • Oldest Profession

Women, and some times men, have been selling their bodies since time began. It may not be for coin but rather food, clothing, protection, shelter and etc. A trade for services rendered. If the concept of a persons right to chose what is done with their body is followed then there should be no penalty for prostitution. In many cultures it was seen as an honorable profession. It was only after the Roman Catholic Church was established as a state religon that prostitution started to become condemned.

  • other animals get prostituted

I don't quite understand why breeding animals (or prostitution of animals) such as champion racing or show horses, or even dogs for that matter is such a huge business and human breeding is so frowned upon. I mean people will pay incredible amounts of money for their cow to be bred with the right bull, why not with humans. I'd pay a few bucks to have the sperm of Tim Duncan in my kid, why not?

  • Prostitution

To say that prostitution is "wrong" is, quite simply, hypocritical and bonkers. Prostitution as practised in much of the West is perfectly OK, it's just a bit tacky.

It is the criminalisation of prostition which is the main cause of problems: this leads to sex slave trafficking, pimping, violence, exploitation etc.

Maybe if more women screwed around indiscriminately the way most men do, then the need for prostition would vanish.

Incidentally I came on this site for the first time today - I thought it was about philosophy for christ's sake. Not just a talking shop to discuss sex, prostition, politics and whether bloody animals think like humans.

  • Where Society Permits

If society determines that prostitution is wrong, then it is wrong. Illegal in most of the US, legal in Nevada. Premarital sex is legal is the US. Infidelity is legal in the US criminally, but could cost you in civil settlement. Those are the social positions in the US. If you disagree, you can try to use our political system to change it. I personally think prostitution should be legalized and I feel those other issues are fine. Legalizing prostitution could allow better health monitoring.

  • The Image of Sex

ON PROSTITUTION there is only one thing I can say; if the girls want to do it and feel good about it, I think it's good work; it's something that some men just need to do, and without prostitutes I think there'd be a lot more rapists. ON PRE-MARITAL SEX this has to do with the image of sex beyond everything. Sure you shouldn't just get it on with every single person you see, but if you really feel something for someone (which is most of the time very strong with first boyfriends/girlfriends) I don't see why intimacy is wrong? It's so tender and pure, sex doesn't have to be a dirty sin. AS FOR INFIDELITY I just don't agree with it. If you don't like monogamy, don't get into it. If you want to do something with someone else, leave the one you're with. It's just social rules I think you should stick to, for the sake of the other person's feelings.

  • Consent and Liberty

If two mature people consent to have sexual intercourse for an agreed price, how is that hurting anyone? People have one-night stands all the time, and the only difference between that and prostititution, is that money in involved in one and not the other. And for the record, people marry for money all the time. Couldn't that be considered prostitution?

  • Insult of Woman

Prostitution is actually the insult of humanity, especially of woman, who is hired for few moments to dishonour and deflower her…..It is one of the cheapest thing, against the person of woman, and only and only is better than nothing at all but only rape. It also resembles rape. It is the humiliation of ladies.

  • Legal

In my state, prostituition is legal, along with brothels. Of course there are guide lines and rules with it. I think it should be, as long as they have their people checkd for diseases and STD’s like the law has them do here.

  • Squirrels and Prostitution

I totally agree with you up there^^ about sex before marriage- if you want to do it go ahead, and if you don’t – don’t. there’s no reason to make a big deal about when the rest of the world has sex, people should just live how they want to and not worry about the rest of the world. i never really understood the whole up tight christian thing about not having sex before marriage anyways, sex is so normal…its a part of the universe, and evolution, it’s what keeps the world alive. what is it with the bible telling you that you can only take part in this after you’re “married” to someone? i don’t get it – squirrels don’t have to wait until their married to have sex, why should humans? *as for prostitution, i think that it is totally up to whoever is selling themselves – it is their body and their live, if you don’t agree with it…don’t sleep with a prostitute!

  • Laws should protect and liberate...

We need to make it universally legal to run responsible prostitution businesses.

By legalizing prostitution, everybody benefits. The prostitutes are protected by law and more able to join the workforce elsewhere. The Johns, their wives and girlfriends and everybody in society benefit from increased health regulation. Would be rapists can satisfy their drive for domination with a professional, who is working under guard. This benefits them, their families and, perhaps more importantly, their innocent victims. It even benefits televangelists, who might be running out of things to complain about! LOL.

What's the downside? That a married man might feel it's okay to bed down a hooker because it's legal, that's about the only bad thing that comes to mind. Of course he's already got a mistress. A man that could get a wife can find a mistress.

  • Live And Let Live

I personally believe in sex before marriage. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t. But if someone doesn’t want to have sex till they are married then that is entirelly their desicion. There is no reason to dis or judge anyone in any way. Live and let live.

  • Material Vs. Sacred

Prostitution is low… very low. I believe that if you will put yourself down that much, then you are having an ego trip, because you aren’t that great looking for one, and if you are—it’s not worth selling. Money is material… Virginity is sacred!

  • Not our deal

It is not our concern. Sounds rather closed minded, true, but it's the way it is. We cannot judge the merits of prostitution, until we are living on the cold streets and eating garbage to survive, wait until we are in that position.

  • many naive opinions

It is very interesting to listen to all the arguments here for the legalization of prostitution. "If two mature people consent to have sexual intercourse for an agreed price, how is that hurting anyone?" "By legalizing prostitution, everybody benefits." "if the girls want to do it and feel good about it"

Sometimes people are so naive. have they not spent one second to think about who these prostitutes actually are and where they come from? usually they have limited education, preventing them from getting better jobs. Then, many of these prostitutes were bo
