Why Is Life So Unfair

Why is that life is so unfair? Why does it do things to people how don't actually deserve it?

  • You suggest a Brave New World...

First of all you are assuming that nature is subjective. "Why is Life Unfair?" Why assume 'Life' has any concept of fairness/unfairness? This is a human construct.

Secondly, if people treated each other fairly, ie, if everyone had to operate on being eternally nice, pleasant, not killing, not raping, etc, then our whole concept of 'bad' would completely disappear. Relativistically, because the perception of good and bad is a human construct, we would then find other examples in this apparently perfect life to constitute 'badness'. So, someone not giving you enough flowers in a bunch, for example, would equate itself with the same calculated ‘badness/unfairness’ of murder in the old world.

Alternatively, you might want to deduct free will from the equation and assume we should all just behave in a ‘fair’ and ‘good’ manner by default. (a kind of Heaven/paradise situation) But doesn’t this concept completely contradict ‘fairness’ itself? That we none of us have any choices, expect to behave the way we’re told is ‘fair’?

Lastly, doesn’t this all sound a bit Brave New World? Isn’t that exactly what would happen in a world where we are denied our instincts? With this philosophy, for the reasons above, you are forced to eliminate emotion and freedom. Don’t we just all want what the Savage wanted in the scientific nightmare that eliminated the individual?

“I want poetry, I want freedom, I want danger, I want goodness, I want sin"

And lastly lastly, I rarely commit South Park’s little pearls of wisdom to my own philosophy, but here’s a little something that seems to underline my debate that you might want to think about …

“Without evil there could be no good, So it must be good to be evil sometiiimes!”

    Just a thought.

Why does life have to be so unfair? Why do the good people have to die? If people treated each other fairly, there wouldn't be any wars, would there? If life was fair, no one would die before their time. no one would become sick with cancer at a young age like 18, and die from it. Why is life so unfair? how can it be that the bad people get off after they've killed someone? Good people are punished for what bad people have done.
