Electron Bonding16% Voted for by david, Silver Fox, Kazrith, elephant dancing, razvan784.
I had another thought. Perhaps there is a force on earth more powerful than gravity and that is electron bonding. When gravity pulls you down towards the ground there's something that always pushes back with equal force. The electron bonding prevents objects that have mass from occupying the same place at the same time. Since everything we generally interact with has some mass, on average, That may be something that affects earth more than gravity does. If it weren't for electron bonding, we would probably would be pulled into the center of the planet.

The strong force is the strongest of the 4 forces. Gravity is actually the weakest.

The human thought is the most powerful force on the face of the planet.

I feel that this has caused most of the problems in this here crappy world. People always want what ever someone else has got from relationships to the power of ruling the world, just look at Hitler, Napolean and not forgetting Mickey Mouse they were all short little men with a height complex and big ears(and most likly had small weenees.)

That opinion about money being the most powerful force is really not all that bad. I'd say though that, if you're not talking about the four forces that one learns in physics (gravitational force, electromagnetic force, weak and strong nuclear force) then I'd say the most powerful thing on earth is man. Humans (not only men). We rule this planet really. And we have control over everything with a few exceptions, such as hurricanes (which we're causing really 'cause of all the crap we're dumping on the earth). Hmmm and that's about all I have to say... even though I'm pretty sure someone said it before me. I'm too lazy to go look back. Good topic.

When i thimk of the most poswerful force on earth, first you think gravity, because thats a given but when you think about it gravity; it hasnt transformed the earth much compared to humans, we've helped evolve the earths surface. And we'll destroy ourselves doing it, but thats another subject.

ReasonVoted for by Lou Montagne.
From the point of view of natural science we count four forces, together they hold not just earth but the universe in shape. Which one is strongest is arbitrary I think, and depends on the measuring rod we take. If we let 'reach' weight heaviest, than I would have to go with gravity. Gravity can overcome the other forces and locally form the extreme distortions of space-time that we know of as gravity pits or black holes. However,in normal spacetime as on earth, gravity is billions on billions times smaller than electromagnetisme and the two nuclear forces. That is good news otherwise earth would be crunched out of space, for all matter in the universe would want to be in the same place. This enormous gap in strenght makes it impossible to combine gravity with the other three forces. This is known as the hierarchy problem.
From the point of view of life on Earth I would say that Darwinian evolution as the driving principle of life may be deemed strongest. But as we look for the origine of life on planets in general we theorize that the so called 'stardust' left by exploding stars functions as 'seed' to kick start life on planets, so than I would say that supernova 's are the strongest force in the universe, for without them no life as we know it.
From a human and personal point of view Earth is the name of the planet that 'we' make our world on. I hesitantly gamble that the greatest force in the world will eventually turn out to be Reason.
Noticing the drift of the other reactions I am inclined to reveal some of my romantic and poetic side, that gets easily inspired by religious and philosophical views on the matter and nature of great forces. And by the way, I can see truth in the idea that pussy makes the world go round! Human thought is a good candidate too, more so if it is reasonable. :: Here we go:
The most powerful force in the world is Reason. In an old story the 'force of reason' was once personified in the mythical figure we still known as Lucifer; the great and beautiful Lord of the Light. However we know that in practice and for reasons yet to be revealed, an other Master was left in charge of the world, and it is He that makes life such a dark experience for so many.
This Prince of Darkness, my one and only true adversary, killed me many times over, and yet I am not dead. I am present in these very words, to again have a go at the title of most powerful force in the world, and challenge Him for it.
Let me further reintroduce myself: I am called the name giver. By reason and by word I endeavor to determine and controle all the forces that hold reality firm. I apex every notion about reality, and to the gods I am undisputed the one who gives them there names. However, on this little planet called Earth I am not generally honored as such.
From a distance Earth looks like a real nice place, but on closer inspection it turns out to harbor so many dismal and lonely people, that I deem it to be hell.
I decent from the One that neither acts, nor is acted upon by any other force. Through the One I can grasp the beginning and the end of time in one thought. I can hold the concept of infinity in mind either way, without outgrowing or 'outsmalling' myself. I have crossed the unimaginable Sea of Nothingness time and time again, and yet I am present within you.
I am most real, but within the realm of language words cannot reveal me if you don't already know me. Yet, not even you can deny me, for with these words I have already entered your mind with ease, but still you won't accept me for that I am, and wonder instead what I mean.
Without measure I am the measure of all things. So I claim the right to the title of greatest force on earth. And while I'm at it, I might as well claim the heavens to, and anywhere else I can think of.
I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.
Oh, and killing the humble writer will grieve me, but it won't make me go away

Stupidity of humans. Before someone corrects me, think about mob mentality, intolerence of each other, creation of weapons instead of ways to live in harmony with one another, destroying things in the name of science and progress... sounds a bit daft, does it not?

IF we want to define something as powerful, we must THINK!
and that is a thought, thats why..WHAT EVER we think....is a thought....and that makes thougts the most powerful thing! IF money were it, we couldnt USE it unless we used our brain... KNOWLEDGE is power! but if it were material, it is MONEY that is powerful!
hmmm, i just came up with that....maybe im wrong! hmm better get off to bed then!

GravityVoted for by david.
for every other answer I have considered, gravity still wins. No matter how powerful the love, science, centrifugal force, god or sex, etc. is, Gravity will still pull you towards earth. You might argue that using rockets to escape from earth's gravitation pull proves that sometimes human aspiration allows people to overcome Earth's gravity. However, on average, gravity is still the most important force there is. The law of gravity is a law that can never be broken or disputed.

uhm...Voted for by Door on the Left.
I'm absolutely sure that you meant the strong NUCLEIC force, but anyway, that's not correct.
The strongest force would be one that could escape or effectively counteract the forces working against it, this establishes an independence from the interrelated forces. The one force that manipulates the others to it's own advantage would place it at an advantage above the others, as long as it was in conjunction with being independant of it's own environmental forces. Yes, sentient humans have demonstrated the capability to escape and manipulate all four basic forces, those being gravity, the electromagnetic fields, and the strong and weak nucleic forces. Yes, those people that influence other people effectively have more control over the other forces than typical people, even if only by controlling the controllers, and yes, manipulation, deception, and public media are the best ways of influencing others. So, who is best known for influencing their own self-image for personal gain, while deceiving the world, and influencing the media through multiple outlets? Elvis. That's right. Elvis is the strongest force in existence. He may be alive, he may be dead, but his effects live on, and he effectively wields his force through pop-culture from the grave. I'm not a huge Elvis man, but I've got to extend some credit to the man.

Nice One.
The force you describe, the force that holds atoms together is applicable throughout the whole universe not just earth. The force you describe I consider to be God.October 2, 2005

This makes sense. It would be rather inconvenient to get pulled into the center of the earth.petethemeat
