There are two gods one real, the environment around living things and us, this is god or god created it as something, which we experience. Any form of god that is based on a religion is false as all religion is only concerned about human beings. Human beings are only animals and are of no more important to this world than any other living creature. We still need to survive just like all animals and are born and die the same way, humans have made there symbolism meanings eg ideas and visual communication (text pictures, symbols, verbal visual communication.) there greatest achievement and weakness, having this ability is not so different to apes, its just that humans have taught each over which is only due to how our brain functions. Look at ants and there social structure is the human race just evolving through instinct and not actually thinking about what it’s doing but just reacting to the symbolic meanings from which we create.

Hope??15% Voted for by Kevin, Jenni495, ilovemygrape, Jetsabel, creSSfairy. (10 total)
I believe that when the bible was written, it was mainly just stories. People took those stories as hope, so it was passed down, and is what it is today. I have many thoughts about how someone came up with the stories. My main theory is that a schizophrenic man thought he hear “God”, and wrote it down. Back then people didn’t know the facts about mental disorders, and the ones they knew about were treated with death. A man that simply heard voices or saw things that weren’t there could have been considered a saint. People then, as they do now, what something bigger to hope for, they want more out of life, so they convince themselves that there is more after life. Believing in God helps them survive in this world. If that makes someone live their life to the fullest or believe that they have some purpose in life, so be it. Of course, it’s only a theory, no one will be able to prove what really happened.

My real guess is that we made up god because we had nothing to fall back on. No one to blame, and people from the beginning wanted to be diverse. Have this one group be different from the other. Such as sinners, and gods children. We created ideas, and those ideas became obsessions then those obsessions became religions in which so many people still follow with a passion.

humans need something to believe in, becuase without belief there is nothing to build on, we all believe in something whether it be god/s or something else and most times its what keeps us going.

Humans didn’t make up God….God made up humans! People didn’t just make up God to have something to believe in or something to hope for….He’s not just a really nice dream that people have, like dreaming of having the perfect date for prom. God is real and nothing a human says or does would change that.

God was made for power4% Voted for by lost faith, HunkeyChunkeyMonkey, bobrocks.
God was created by early humans as a means to explain things around them, have a place for hope. They then realized that people are generally stupid and would believe anything they hear so they used this “god” theory to control people and gain power, this is how religion was created. Then everything snowballed from there.

I’ve read every single comment here. And of course as is the system of this site, they are all respected, people’s views, no matter how ridiculous they seem, should always attain a certain amount of respect. BUT, I think the main problem here is that people don’t realise one thing. Humans have always had the same mentality. To think for one second that logistically speaking the people in biblical times weren’t as clever as today’s modern standard is the root of this problem. Jesus and the whole thing could have been a sham, yes. He could have been some sort of magician or something. But again, wouldn’t people have noticed? And would Christianity have spread so far? Personally, this whole God issue is a touchy subject for me, since my faith isn’t as strong as I’d like it to be. That being said I am in fact Roman Catholic. Explain this to me though, if there isn’t a God (even though I understand all your points and for the most part agree) how do miracles happen? Honestly tell me. I have witnessed miracles. I have seen a friend of mine possessed and then exorcised. So explain that to me. The coincidences are too great, and even thought as a race we doubt many things, I think this is pretty spot on. Now imagine there isn’t a God, either way the life of a Christian is a happy one. If one had to follow the advice from the Bible and truly live their lives as it is written then they would have a happy live. If you’re a believer or not, makes no difference. The Bible isn’t just stories, myth or fairy tales. The Bible is a book of guidelines as well, aiding people who read it. After all, it is the ultimate all time best seller. ;-) must be worth a read then.

I think that history was somehow twisted and the Bible was written as some kind of story to bring hope to everyone, to give them something to believe in because humans need that – humans always believe in something, they believe the keyboard infront of them exists because if they did not they would go insane. They believe someone made the keyboard because otherwise it wouldn’t exist. They believe someone made the someone that made the keyboard otherwise they would not exist… It’s just human logic throwing itself off course whilst all the time we try to keep our sanity on a leash.

Emancipation3% Voted for by Kevin, SaintEnvious.
It all boils down to an apriori sense of being somehow enslaved. I think mainly this would arise from a lack of control over our environment. Through religion we create a possible means by which we can control the uncontrollable through prayer, sacrifice, whatever…tribal peoples’ beliefs give some merit to this idea.

HardVoted for by heresyistheway.
I think that depends on what “god” you’re talking about. Most people seem to be taking it as the Christian idea of “god”. That one seems to have started out as a sort of boogey man to me, just read the first testemant with all the geniocide and ripping apart of pregnat women. Then they softened him so that they could better control people. Well on the large scale, I know the vaste majority truly believe in what men thousands of years ago wrote and then men hundreds of years ago re-wrote. But the basic idea of high power was just trying to cope with the unexplainable. Over time it evolved into a tool to gain power and oppress others, just like everything does eventually.

Higher PowerVoted for by Andy Stephenson.
The reason for God(s) is the belief in a higher power. It is quite obvious that there are many higher powers or gods. Paul said “The god of this world is money”. Other gods, are the Almighty, the heavens, the sun, the moon, earth, air, fire, water, plants, animals, prescious metals and gems, cars, mythological gods, our governmental leaders, etc. All of these are or may be believed to be higher powers or Gods. Some of them, most definitely are higher or greater powers.

The existance of GodVoted for by Ilitilian.
An eternity would not be enough time to expand on my believe, my love, and my faith in God. The same God who brought the Isralites out of the land of slavery, is the same God who pulled be back from the brink. I know there is a God. In every aspect of human exisitance God’s existance is shown. If you take in every aspect of nature, what we know and what we don’t know, one cannot do anything but at least aknowledge the existance of God. Einstien said: ‘The more I study the Universe, the more I am convinced of a Higher Power.’ The existance of life itself is a miracle. The axis of the earth is tilted at a 23.5 degrees. If it was tilted the slightest bit in either direction, most of the world would be uninhabitalbe. If the moon was any closer to the earth, the tides would be astronomical. There are so many aspect to this angle alone I could go on for ever. You can say you don’t believe in God. But if you were to die tonight, and you knew it, could you honestly say to me that you still don’t believe in the God who created you and placed that longing in your soul. Could you tell me that when you watch the sun go down on you life, that you don’t wonder what your pupose has been. And that is the core of it. Purpose. Humans are all striving to find their purpose. To find the reason behind why they were born. It is ingrained into our minds. It is writen on our hearts to find and do our purpose. If you can stand there and tell me that you don’t wish to find the purpose to your life, to find the reason you are here, then I fear I don’t know what to tell you. There are longings ingrained into every single human. Longings that no man can supress or fill. If you can honestly say that you can’t feel the longing in your soul for peace, for love, for aceptance and understanding, then I have nothing to say. My words are torn from my mouth; they have dried up like the desert wind blowing in from the east. Such I am left without words.

No one created God. He has always existed. If it does not sound logical then perhaps God did not intend for logic to be the means by which one looks at this issue. Some times faith is all that is needed.

So apparently a lot of ppl like to believe that they came from a MONKEY!! Personally I believe and know that I came from a greater power. I know that I’m not perfect, no one, but God is! But I still believe and fear him. I know that he is coming back for his children and I feel sorry for the ones that believe they came from monkeys!!

God, from my point of view...Voted for by Tikki-Teddy.
People made up god so they had something to beleive in…they made everyone think that if you do something bad, he will punish you, one day or an other. Then it became a religon to beleive in him and made up lots and lots of stories and put them in a book that they called:The Bible. Since then, everybody read the Bible over and over again and started beleiving in those stories…

Opiot of the people.Voted for by LaughingPanther.
Humans made up god as something to get them through hard times and an excuse to keep living. Through dark times such as the russion revolution the government encouraged religion as propaganda.

God; all made up and no place to go?
I don't believe that is true. I disagree with the assumption that humans made up God. Though many can argue and maybe even justifiably so that mine is just and assumption too. I have seen to much in my life to think that God is not real and is just a figment of our imaginations. Believing in aliens now that is a good representation of a figment of our imaginations. Thank you for listening God Bless TammyFebruary 13, 2005

A Need
In I think it was Social Studies 8 we took a look at the essentials for a society to form and religion was one of them. Each society has a religion whether its multiple deities, one diety, goddess or god. Eventually a religion of one god was going to form which is what Christianity is today. From your justification it doesn't make sense. We still have fear of the unknown, it happens all the time. And I find it weird that you know why God made humans. Does it say it somewhere in the Bible (really does it? i'm not being sarcastic I haven't read it all) The mystery of life has perplexed us for eons.... ChantelFebruary 20, 2005

True
I have often wondered this. I mean people say that they believe in God but who knows for sure?!.... Plus 'God' is just a name that has been chosen for whatever it is that is supposidly watching us. Maybe humans just made this up. I personally don't believe in God.February 21, 2005

Sorry, I rant...
No-one was around when this "God" fellow "created the Heaven's and the Earth"... so needless to say, we don't know him on a first hand basis. Which, needless to say, even in a court, no one who has written information on "God" that would serve as justifiable evidence in courtMarch 7, 2005
