A lot of religions believe there is an after life. Many saying there is a Heaven and a Hell.
Hell:
Noun
1. a. Often Hell The abode of condemned souls and devils in some religions; the place of eternal punishment for the wicked after death, presided over by Satan.
"eternal punishment". Everyone is different, how do we all get punishment when we all hate different things..is there really individual punishments for us all? What if we hate Heaven..if that were a punishment we may as well be sent there instead. Hell is talked about a lot but sometimes it just seems unrealistic. Then again still the best thing we can say is "maybe". Our opinions are golden, but the only people who can really tell us the answers basically can't.
What do you guys think about Hell?

Hell? Yeah right...9% Voted for by CLoUdY, LaDiabla.
Hell was created by religious authorities as the ultimate threat – if you do not follow, you will be eternally damned. Just another method of control. They create the notion of sin and promote themselves as the only cure, meaning that people have to follow them for salvation. Coincidence? I think not…

Bad definition9% Voted for by Ayrian, Spring Rain.
I think that the definition of hell is wrong. It is the place of eternal punishment for all who have sinned and not paid for their sin. Second, Satan does not preside over hell; he will be the number one prisoner. If you read the bible, especially in Revelation and maybe Romans, you can find this repeated theme. Probably what I find most interesting is that most people (the ones I’ve talked to) disregard hell, often dismissing it as a religious trick or childhood nightmare. I think this occurs because if hell definitely existed, that is that everyone knew hell was real, then lifestyles would be radically changed. People would change to avoid a realistic, viewable punishment. But if people can’t see it, then maybe the people think it doesn’t exist, and people can continue in there oft-times biblically wrong lifestyle, and therefore Satan wins by blinding people to the truth.

Hell on earthVoted for by Whistler.
Hell is what you make it ladies and gents. For some of us there is Hell on earth, homework, projects, teachers, yep it's truly a piss-ant world. But that's not Hell. Let's get scary, Hell exists in our minds, when we die we go to the place we expect to go. We might claim to be good, but if our consciences say different, guess what, it'll be fire and brimstone.

Heven, Hell it's what we make itVoted for by slender spider.
Personally, I believe in an after life, but i also believe that heaven and hell are psychological states of the Human “Being”, and as I think it was Ed somewhere on this board put it “Illusion becomes manifest reality”, taking this idea a step forward, each of us has the capability of existing right now, while on Earth, in either a state of hell or heaven.
Whatever our mind set, we recreate it in our environment, therefore heaven is created daily on Earth, as is Hell. When we die, it is our state of mind at the point of death that determines what our next step will be, “eternally” hellbound, or heaven sent.
Also, I believe that the concept of Eternity, is a human concept, nothing in nature remains static, so how can anything be permanant anyway?

I dont believe in hell, makes no sense to me. Can you sin in heaven? Is there a heaven? I believe that the afterlife is anything you make of it.

WE CREATE OUR OWN HELLVoted for by CLoUdY.
For those of you who believe in meditation, higher-awareness and some such. Hell is the entrapment of ourselves in a prison that just portrays all of our fears. It’s a mind cycle. When we open our mind to concieve that all things are made of energy (or conciousness). We realize that the God we seek is this energy and we are in heaven just for being alive. Heaven is a perfect place to live that’s everywhere. Earth WAS a perfect place to live for humans until they reduced their mind capacity to that which they could see, analyzed that and attempted to build what they felt was missing. When we get entrapped in a cycle of despair and sadness and lock ourselves here never willing to accapt that the bigger picture is nothing we expect it to be. We won’t have eyes to see the after-life, we won’t have a body to feel it, we’ll have out mind and soul to concieve it and to be a part of the perfection that makes up all matter in the entirety of existance.

It's on Route 80Voted for by lightfeather.
I have been to hell. Have you ever crossed the country on Route 80? You know where the road becomes completely straight for days and days? The only other people on the road are cops waiting to bust you for speeding through this desolate hell.
I’m pretty sure it’s in Wyoming.

i have high doubts about an eternal pit of fire and all that crap, and doubts about heaven. i think that heaven is just not going to hell, and hell is repeating you life over and over and over and over again....that would suck...

When I have a question, I try to get the answer “straight from the horses mouth” so to speak.
Where else can you get the skinny on what its like to die, to go to heaven, to hell or whatever, but to listen to people who’ve been there done that.
Check out this site http://www.near-death.com/ to read real near death experiences, check out the ones on hell, on heaven. Very informative, make up your own minds, from real people’s experiences.

Not being religious, i think that down to the fact there is more than one religion most have to be man made nonsence, in which case cutting a long story short i dont become religious and class all religions the same… made up. I beleive hell to be a scare tactic into influencing people to beleive in or not to leave a certain religion.
For all we know, we could be living an afterlife right now, what was our first life?? you can question it almost endlessly in almost anyway and thats why i think its just better to stop guessing and live with what we know, what we are ment to know because if we were ment to know any more we would be able to work it out, as in im saying, we havnt evolved enough to be able to understand religion and the meaning of life. That day may well never come, but untill then, i'd rather live by what i know than what a book or someone else tells me.

Earth is HellVoted for by cante jondo.
let me give you a little background on my beliefs. I believe in reincarnation. I also believe in planes of incarnation. Each plane is more and more energizing, that is you need your body less. You can only progress through the planes by spiritual learning. Heaven is where your soul no longer needs a body and has returned to Brahman. Therefore, Hell can only be the absence of learning causing you to stay on your plane and keeping you from Brahman

Hell on EarthVoted for by Sssid.
Ever heard of the term "seventh Heaven"? There are seven levels or planes to our existence (spiritual). Each higher level or plane being better than the one below purer if you like. The seventh plane is the ultimate goal whereby we achieve pure spirit. To get there we have to learn lessons of life. We do that here on the earth plane where we are confronted with evil and good. Until we attain the ultimate we keep comming back to either re-learn the lessons or learn new ones... Hell on Earth.

hell was not taught by early christiansVoted for by cosmosis.
the concept of a hell is a zoroastrian concept. the zoroastrians believed that there were two main gods, a god of light and a god of darkness, both were equal in strength and created a balance in the universe (like a yinyang concept)and a persons soul could go to either place. now...when christian missionaries traveled to india (or wherever zoroastrianism was)the concept of a hell was brought into the christian religion and when the new testament was finally written (decades after jesus' death) the writers included the concept of a hell in christianity and made it seem as if jesus was the one who said it. this is why christianity and islam have a hell and judiasm doesn't because judiasm has already been around and islam wasn't started until the 600's ad.

I actually believe in hell. I believe the bible that it was a place created for the devil and it was not God's intention for us to go there. I also take hell very very seriously. I take it a seriously as I take heaven. It definitely is not a place you should ever ever joke about going. It is a place of suffering for all eternity where you will want to die and will not be able to. It is absent of all love hope and anything good. I must admit that we see some hellish things on earth, but it can't even begin to compare to the torments of hell. I believe the only escape from hell is Jesus Christ my savior. He wants to be yours to if you would only believe!

The ObviousWell seeing as this is a philosophy site, try looking at this from a philisophical view. The bible makes some comment about burning forever in the firy lake of hell. Ignoring religion,How can you burn with no body? You couldn't feel pain without it. Simple, isn't it?Voted for by Socio-Sympathy.

Proof of Heaven, Hell and other regions that we are likely to go after deathSure there is a Heaven and Hell. There are also several other regions that one can reach after death for eg: the Nether region. Sadly I don't think many of us will be going to Heaven (this includes me of course). In order to go to Heaven, we need to have a spiritual level of at least 60%. The average spiritual level of a person in the present age is 20%. It is only through continuous spiritual practice and other service unto God that we can reach this spiritual level. There are also sub regions in heaven - the more the merits and spiritual practice you undertake, the better chances you have to be in a state of perpetual bliss. I think this website will give you a better understanding on life after death http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/spiritualresearch/spiritualscience/afterdeath/Voted for by AnjanaSaideepak.

HellHell is a place were you are forever being punished for your sins and refused to repent. It's goes like this. If you steal from a chicken, your punishment wont be nearly as great is you ,say, stole from your parents. neither would killing a cockroach have the same consequenses as killing the pope. But what about disobeying? disobeying the president would have greater consequenses than disobeying a 2 year old. But what about disobeying an infinite being? Disobeying someone who loved you, made you, died a horrendous death for you, yet you still disobeyed? The punishment should be eternal. Witch I believe it is.But there is a hope. And that is The blood Jesus (God made flesh to become a sacrifice) But you do not have to believe it. But it really really really REALLY would suck if you had all this knowledge and achalogical and scientific evidence pointing torwards the bible, and you Go to hell because you decided to be willingly ignorant of the facts.Voted for by Doom Pickels.
