  • isn't it obvious?

YES, it is meat...it has meat on it, and blood, and bones, and a heart, and etc...that any other living creature has

  • meat tastes yum

According to my textbooks from the Culinary Institute of America, whilst fish and seafood are given seperate sections and titles/topics they ARE classified as meat, for they are made not of vegetable matter but flesh.

Basically, as defined by aforementioned textbook: If an organism has ANY kind of circulatory system, nervous system, brain, bones, organs, ect. and is above a basic biological form (IE: amoeba, bacteria, ect.) it is meat.

    And it tastes yummy.

  • Well

I had to stop calling myself a vegetarian b/c I always add "...but I eat fish." I think we are so ignorant when it comes to marine life. We don't realize there is a whole other world below the water's surface. The reason I personally eat fish and not meat is b/c I don't like the way animals are kept before they are slaughtered. I know there are fish farms, and I know fish suffer when they are caught in nets and that makes me feel bad, but at the very least, on the most part their lives were free and they were not raised to become food. I also feel like humans are not supposed to eat cows...I know the cavemen hunted large animals, but I feel that humans should only eat poultry and fish. I won't eat poultry because they are now altering the DNA of chickens so they are born without beaks so they do not peck each other to death in the over packed cages. They are also making them without feathers now a days. This is not natural and I don't think this is what we should be consuming. And don't get fooled by "free-range" or "organic" chicken b/c it just means that instead of being cramped in cages indoors, they are cramped in a small yard outdoor. So yes, fish is flesh. But the truth is, and I know vegans and true veggies everywhere would fight me on this, but there is a food chain. We are at the top, supposedly (until you meet a shark or wolf, and although we should be intelligent enough to balance a flesh-free diet, fish is the best option I can see to a well-rounded diet. However, soy is something that everyone should start to consume.

  • Close enough

Oh my gosh, that reminds me of my father. I became a vegetarian when I was about 11 and my dad didn't understand it. He used to always say, "Well, you should at least eat fish! Fish is a vegetable!" o.O

Uh, hello, I don't see any fish growing in the garden, lol! I think the consistency of fish is different than other meats or something? I couldn't say for sure. It's a living thing that moves and eats and mates, so to me, it's meat.

  • i think it is meat

why wouldn't fish be meat. there is absolutely no logical reason to assume it isn't meat. i've even heard people make the remark that its not a meat because its not a mammal. BIRDS AREN'T MAMMALS EITHER! and yet they think they are meat....just because they are underwater and are slightly different from land creatures, that doesn't make them any less meat, because if they weren't meat what would they be, fruit?

  • Not red or white, but it is

Well fish is of course, technically, a meat, but it doesn't really count as red meat or white meat, but it is the muscle of a once living animal that we eat, so it is most definitely meat

  • meat?

Fish is only meat if you want to eat it. You dont say (or do you?) "ooh, look at that peculiar meat swimming by" or "ooh, that rather large meat swimming towards me may think that I am meat." Anyway, a fish is not a fish. It is a noise. "What is a noise?" A noise is an impact of airwaves on the eardrum. "Then a fish is an impact of airwaves on the eardrum?" No, a fish is a fish is a fish is...... To look at it another way (after all, this is a philosophy site, isn't it?), As you experience a fish in your presence, the fish is part of your experience in that moment. So, as the only reality is moment to moment experience, you were the fish and all the phenomenal/emotional/bodily reactions to it. If one contemplates that there is no self experiencing things, but only experience in itself then there is no self to be conscious of, therefore, no self consciousness. There just IS.

  • They Are

Fish are a living, breathing, MOVING thing. I consider them meat.

I don't really understand; why wouldn't fish be meat? Just because they live in the ocean?

Then birds wouldn't be meat either.

    Humans wouldn't be meat.

I don't eat any of the top three, though. Oh, except for Long John Silver's. Mmmmm...

  • Yes, Fish is Meat

Every single thing that lives, and moves around far distances, and sees, is meat. And everything that eats, meat, is meat. Except for those flowers, that eats bugs.

  • Fish

I am also vegetarian and for some reason people find it hard to imagine why I am more opposed to chicken and fish then say - pork, beef etc. Chickens go under the worst treatment of all farm animals. And why fish? - 1/2 of marine biodiversity has been wiped out. Deep sea trawling demolishes habitats on the sea floor. High-density-chemical pellets are fed to those fish in farms to make their flesh pinker or oranger when they're cooked up. Sorry to say this - but I believe being a vegetarian is an example of harmony and divine empathy - if you think dead fish belong in your list of what to devour and call yourself a vegetarian, maybe you should consider your reasons for being vegetarian.

  • eat a well balanced meal

No need to be strict and never eat a certain food, unless of course a doctor or an allergy has changed that. Too much red meat can be unhealthy, but an occassional Steak is fine sometimes.

Fish is great, but at every meal; could get old fast.

Eat your veggies they give you a longer life. Eat your fruits; they give you strength in many ways.

Have an occasional Ice cream Sunday, but remember your healthy and balanced intake.

No need to over eat, but take the time to exercise.

Be a vegitarian about 80% of the time, but also take the time, to savor something exotic to the palet.

  • Huh?

Wow,take this as a compliment, you must be a very random person..because I don't think that fish have to do with philosophy. Thinking about it, I think that fish is not meat, because it doesn't have the same characteristics meat does. As far as I'm concerned, even if it is meat or not...it's delicious and is a good nutrient because it contains a lot of proteins.

  • fish

people dont consider fish meat because they supposedly do not have a memory of life. this way people believe that when they are killed, they dont feel pain or dont remember it anyways. but essentually fish is meat because it is essentually a protein from a organism that uses oxygen to breathe and funtion.
