Judge Not Lest Ye Also Be Judged

What does the Bible mean when it says not to judge?

  • Judgement

Well, it obviously is not a universal abolition of judgement. We make them everyday about everything. We judge what would be best or worst to do, who would be better or worse to spend time with, what people to avoid and what people to gather with. We also state that a person's lifestyle is wrong or is right. What is it that Jesus spoke of when he said not to judge? Well, I don't think he said not to judge at all. The whole verse says "Judge not lest yte also be judged." It is not a prohibition, but a warning. We always judge and always will, but I believe Jesus is saying that we should not judge what we cannot (which is a person's salvation and soul) and we should use righteous judgement in everything. When one states that something is wrong because the Bible says so or something to that degree, they are using right judgement. They are not making the judgement itself but are rather interpretting the judgement made by the Bible. That is what I think anyways.

  • What it means.

What I think the bible means is, not to condemn people for what they do just because they do it. I mean, we can all be saved by grace and nothing can separate us from God's love, so why curse what God hasn't cursed (as it says in numbers)

Meaning, don't be so quick to shove people down the plank (metaphorically) for something that God would easily forgive. Instead, try to help that person by letting them know that what theyre doing is wrong and brining them to repentance. This way, people can avoid being hurt by words, or even physically, as steven was stoned to death in Acts because he went against the sanhedrin (although, Steven was in the right, but that's besides the point).

The important question here, is how would Jesus judge people?

    With LOVE, of course.

  • judgement

judgement is merely any one human's mind filtering things they see and telling them what is right and wrong about the external world of people places and things through past experiences all in an attempt to control them and fit in with society in many cases. these individuals are too easily swayed. we like independent thinkers.

if you want to be critical of something or of yourself than thats okay. but you have no greater authority than anyone else. i'm a christian but i don't understand why some christians think the way to witness is to first tell someone they are wrong and treat them badly. christians are just like any other human, we think we know everything and that our way is right. its not a bad thing, its human nature, but people should understand that concept and learn how to break through it before walking around denouncing religions they know little or nothing about. i personally would hate to be the one responsible for turning someone away from christianity. ~ shirley

  • Well..
Well the bible says not to Judge other people or their actions because it will condem you to hell (If you believe) or it could lead you astray about a certain person when they might be having a rough time. But I've heard a rhyme that goes with that.
    It goes:

"You say I'm a sinner, You say I'm bound for hell
But once your judgement condems you,
    I shall see you there"

It is the rhyme which was said from a begger to a High Priest. For when the begger asked for some spare coins the Priest had said that he would just go buy wine, and that he wouldn't help the begger commit such sins. When in fact the begger had not eatin in 2 weeks, and another week past and so did he. The priest which was supposed to do God's work and help his people, denied the begger, therefore when it was his turn to pass away some 5 to 10 years later, He was denied entrance to heaven.

Point being you can hurt someone by judging them.

  • If you're going to judge...
be prepared to be judged yourself.
That's what I think it means.
We all have things that we do wrong; if you're going to bring someone else's wrongdoing to their attention, be sure you know what you yourself have done wrong.
But I think too many people say "Judge not lest ye be judged" just because they don't like someone telling them they shouldn't be doing something they already know they shouldn't be doing anyway.
