My friend and I were discussing this the other day. Reality is probably different to each one of us, i mean it would be rather freaky if we were all born with the same ideas on the world.
Therefore if reality is different to all of us, then is there such a thing as reality?

yes we all live in th same reality because we all live in thi world together and see the same things. no because of how we perciee things. what someone sees as one thing is a completely different thing or has a different meaning to someone else. we create our own reality with our thoughts and ideas we just use some of the worlds reality to create our own. so technically yes we all live in the same reality but actually we don’t because we perceive things differently.

We all exist in the same reality with the same physical laws and features. We perceive and react to this same reality differently, but it is the same thing regardless.
If I show you a movie I think is hysterical, and you think it sucks, are we sharing the same movie? Yes.

“We are all God, most of us in a space no larger than our own imagination.”
Need I say more? You can see how this is a valid point. We create our own realities to help us cope and survive, asking if there’s a true reality is like asking what’s normal and what’s right?

Each of us are our own self contained universe/ reality. Reality exists it just happens to be different for each of us.

Reailty is somewhat subjective in that it differs according to each person’s place of perception and their means of perceiving. Are they blind? Deaf? Do they have a higher or lower level of intelligence? What life experiences have shaped their outlook? Reailty is self-constructed, aside from those who are delusional.

Everyone has their own unique perspective on life and the world therefore we each create out own reality. This is the reason that we will never be able to see eye to eye with each other and we all have different responses to situations. Everyone has had unique experiences and has developed different opinions. We will never be able to live in the same reality because humans are incapable to experience each other pasts or feelings.

“if we were all born with the same ideas on the world.” Are we born with ideas? where do these ideas come from? How did we get them before we were born to this world? Does that mean we existed in some way before birth?
“Reality is probably different to each one of us” By this, is it meant that reality appears different to each one of us? Because if you actually mean that reality itself is different to each of us then you have answered your question as to whether we share the same reality already. However if you do mean that we each experience reality differently then there is no reason to expect reality itself to be different for each of us if you define reality as being independent of people.
Reality can only really be seen as different for every person if seen as in some way reliant upon people percieving it. So really you should ask yourself whether or not there would be a world without you. If you take a common sense approach to this you would probably expect a room you have just left to go on existing even though there is no one in there to percieve it. Which would of course lead you to conclude that reality itself is not reliant upon individuals percieving it and so no, reality itself would not be different for everyone.
However, it is more possible for reality to be percieved differently by different people. This again, however, depends upon your definition of perception. But that is not what is being discussed here.

It really depends on what you mean by reality. You need to define your term. And yet, still whatwe think about something really has no bearing on what that object is- it still exists outside you. IE If you choose you can claim the sun is not really what gives off light and heat…but your opinion doesn’t have any significance, and doesn’t change the object: it exists as a reality, and it has a function, and whatever you think about it doesn’t matter.
Even in social reality this is true. Our qualities can be measured, and evaluated, or we would have idiots doing surgery. It doesn’t matter what you think of a persons abilities- it’s objective to you.
Of course there is also subjective reality, and that of course we all experience in our own way.

Bradley's Thoughts on RealityVoted for by nihilismisdead.
Bradley had quite an interesting idea on his texts on nature about reality. He stated that there is an absolute reality. This is one reality that is perfect and clear (God). Everyone can only see a part of this reality. So although we cannot possibly see all that is existence we can see a piece of it. We DO NOT necessarily share everything of the same existence. We share parts of the absolute, but not the entirity of it. Nor do we share the same space of it. We are centres of existence.

reality is what you make some have more impaired reality and others have a better grip on the true concept of reality and distortion...there are alot of things that may or may not distort your view on the reality that surronds yourself so all in all reality is what you make of it

my reality is different from everyone, and the same as no-one. i live in a reality without rules, but the incompetence at the source instead. rules make no sense. and sharing a reality is what makes even less sense. reality is what people make of the physical world around them.no more, no less.people can only share a reality if they think exactly alike. that is very improbable. not impossible...impossibility is not a concept... its a blindness, and that blindness is the one important thing that makes our realities different.

We live under the same boundaries, even though theyre less strict as some may percieve, but I feel when we die were all going to be seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling, and basically witnessing the same things. But until then life is our wonder land, our world, our reality.

reality - noneVoted for by logomancer.
the only reality is communication. we are either communicating with ourselves or someone else all the time we are conscious. that's all reality is; we add a lot more meaning to the word in order to justify our fears. so on the one hand, we share only what we communicate to each other, and that is reality, or we recognize what we communicate to ourselves, and consider that reality. if we want others to be like us, we will say there is an absolute reality that is like my conversation with myself; if we want others to be different so that we can be more special (and close that point of conversation with ourselves) then we say everyone has a reality of their own.
just think - on the one hand the brain is busy translating the information impact on sensors that are on the surface of the body, responding to light, odor, electron surface repulsion etc, and on the other hand adjusting cellular chemistry due to changes in neuropeptide levels, hormones, enzymes etc., both facets of this work being dependent on one another, the so-called environment, and ultimately, the conversations that we have with ourselves.
we interpret all this information by way of this conversation, which is fundamentally made up of this sensor data through metaphor and has gained some level of 'independence' by finding a set of foci that create a sort of programming loop, the source of the perpetual conversation. this loop is intent on believing that it is real, and fear is the suspicion that it is not, so we basically work to protect that perceptual error thingy. so does that qualify as real? no way. only another way of looking at things that are affected by the looker.
so who cares? only the soldiers defendng the castle against the siege. their faith in the king makes them brave, but what do they do when, in the midst of battle, they find out there is no king in the castle?
so is there some sort of supermind or overmind that is beyond self-reference? can it be communicated with - well if there is no self reference, there is no one to have a conversation with nor any separate thing to be understood. so the question actually is, is there a universal and individual self-reference, or are individual self reference and universal self reference two different "things", not is there a reality, because people only answer that question by choosing which one protects the sense of "self" more.

ColorsVoted for by kage069.
My friend and I have discussed somethin really similar, only its about the colors we see. What if what I think is green is yellow to you, but we both call it green because that is what we're taught when we are young. All they have to do to teach you is point and say "Hey look, it's green."

Though we live in the same world, but we do not share the same reality. This is because reality it self does not exist, therefore, everyone perceives it in the way he or she thinks! Please register or login to comment! It's totally free
