My breif point of viewVoted for by Vyr.
Here's an interesting perspective. By law if one kills an expecting mother, they are charged with two counts of murder. On the other hand you can pay for the fetus...(what not) to be "killed" By all means this is clearly contradicting, but according to so many the situation is different. Quite honestly if you don't want a kid then don't spread your legs, it's only that simple. To wrap this up I am obviously against abortion.

The only real issue.Voted for by Khoka.
First of all, I am not advocating either side of the argument, I just see a lot of fallacy in logic that should be avoided in this particular discussion. There is only one issue at hand: when does life begin? If it doesn't begin until birth then who cares if its killed?, but if it begins at conception, well we can't just kill another human, right? Some people pull the rape card. Rape - its a terrible thing - in my opinion the worst act any human is capable of. But I don't think we should base our entire argument for abortion around this one issue - its just an appeal to emotion. If the baby is going to cause psychological damage to the victim, adoption is a decent solution. Now for you who use this argument - consider this: what if abortion is ONLY allowed in rape cases? Would you be cool with that, since thats the only reason you have for why it should be legal? For most of you, you would say, "No, it should be legal for anyone." So what did the rape scenario have to do with anything??? Nothing. Like I said, there is only one REAL issue here. Some of us make the mistake of making an argument based around the fact that abortion is going to happen, legal or not, so we should just opt for the safer method. Once again this is steering the argument away from the real issue. IF life begins at conception and abortion is killing a human, then why should we make it more convienent for people to kill another human? I mean thats the same logic as saying that a starving man could get hurt robbing a store so we should make it legal for him to rob it so he will be safer. On ther other side of the coin, if life begins at birth, then of course we should make it safer. Once again, the only REAL issue worth talking about is WHEN LIFE BEGINS- nothing else. I went through this a little hastily, so if you don't understand my case here, just ask me anything and I'll be glad to try and help. Please refrain however from getting personal or emotional if you disagree. I know its tempting but it degrades your argument considerably. Thanks.

tell me what is right about it?i think there are other choices then killing something who would have become an imprtant part of society.i understand if someone doesn't have money to have a baby and they think theyre saving it from pain but thee is such a thing as adoption.

Honestly, What's so great about "Life" anyway??Voted for by A Nobody.
The only reason you think "Life" is so important, is because you're alive. I hate the question, "Well what if YOU were aborted?". Um, if I was aborted I wouldn't be here to care, now would I? Guess what, I have had a pretty darn good life and have the best family anyone could ask for. However, I am not blind to the horrid state that this planet (and the people on it) is in. Most people's lives are more misery than true happiness and that's the lucky ones. Some never know what happiness feels like. And this place is falling apart at the seams. Why anyone would want to bring an innocent life into this cesspool is beyond me. In my opinion, if you're not in a position to give a child a good chance in life i.e. a loving home with parents who are emotionally and mentally stable - and you have a chance to spare this kid a life of total misery then why not? Aside from that, we don't know when life begins. And don't pretend that you do. That's like saying you know for certain how life on this planet began or that you know what happens when we die. If you say you do, you're a liar. Or schizophrenic. The only hunch we have to go on is the scientific one. By that standard, since true brain activity only begins approximately 88 days after conception, we have to assume that is when life or at least "self-awareness" begins. I am sorry that there is currently no way to measure soul activity but technology is moving in leaps and bounds. In most states (at least in mine) abortion is illegal after the 3 month mark, except in very exceptional circumstances. This seems to make a lot of sense to me. And for those of you that won't give up on the "but life is so important" dream... then don't be discriminating hypocrites. You'd better stand against capital punishment and don't let me ever see you stepping on an ant again, my friend!

The mother (and father) had the choiceVoted for by Crusader318.
Have sex, or don't have sex... Now, unfortunately for the unborn child (can you honestly tell me it isn't a child/person? that we come from blobs of technically non-living matter?), they had sex and now the child is aborted... so where does that put everyone? The mother becomes depressed, the father leaves and may also be depressed, and the child is dead. Fantastic. Now, what should have happened? The father and mother (to-be) marry, they have sex, and they have a child. Most families are, ultimately, happy. Abortion can only be used in some sort of rape case... that's as far as it goes.

You have no argumentVoted for by insitu85.
Even the rape argument falls. If a woman gets raped, and is impregnated, how many victims are there? One: the woman. Two: the rapist (a victim of his own terrible decision). Three: the new human life is also a victim of circumstance. All three of these human beings are in a bad spot! All of them need to be helped, and given a chance. The woman may need counseling and therapy, and possibly the assistance of an adoption agency. (There are many!) The rapist may need a prison sentence, and therapy. The child in the womb NO LESS needs to be protected, and given a chance. All human life, regardless of size, or crimes committed, should be protected from crime; in my oppinion, murder just might be a worse crime than rape. Let's not fight evil with a worse evil and pretend that it will be okay.
I also agree with canadiantruth: Although I am a Christian, you dont need to be a Christian to be pro-life. The message of respecting all human life is universal, and the pro-life position can even be defended on a purely rational level.
In conclusion I would like to say that I am pro choice: as long as that choice values the life of all human beings. The choice to murder another person is never an acceptable "choice".

yes it is!!!first off, how the hell would you feel to kill your own child? something that depends on you for life?...ok you guys are messed up in the head if you think it is right because has anyone ever cared about the childs feelings? seriously, you need help if you think that shit is right. who cares if you have been raped, i have also, but i didn't give up my baby cuz i wouldn't want the same for myself. so get a life, please.Voted for by Need A BandAid .
-
damn you peopleim pro choice. true story, woman was pregnant didnt want a kid. gave birth into her toilet drowning the child. left the carcas in her closet for weeks, threw it in a dumpster. she couldve killed it before it was alive. now people who wait until the baby is actually breathing and thinking are not wrong, just a little late. if you dont want a child you shouldnt be forced by others moral opinions to have one. what if abraham lincoln was aborted? or einstein? well then thats that. they died oh no... im not for abortion, or against it. if a woman doesnt want a child, fine. dont have one. if she does, good for her. you people arent going to change the world by being idiots on a philosophy site.Voted for by Imagine420.

Think About This!!!Dave Thomas was sent to an adoption agency. Think if he had been aborted instead?!Voted for by endsofbread.
No more Wendy's.
And it is clearly the best fast food restaurant in this day and age.
Abortion is wrong. Ask DAve Thomas. -
WorldLook on the bright side! Its one less person in the world!Voted for by intangableenigma.
But, seriously.
It is the choice of the parents wheter or not to abort it. The baby doesnt have a consious at all, thinking process, or any knowledge at all.
And its not like the baby's alive and has experienced life on Earth to feel its own "death". -
Think about it this wayI think that if something can't feel or think, then it doesn't matter if it dies or not. The fetus can't feel or think until a certain stage, and so it doesn't matter if the fetus is killed before then, and for those people typing about how we would lose friends and world changing people-what a load of crap! Thats like saying what if humans had never existed? What if pigs could fly? What if Mary Poppins really existed?Voted for by Lost one.
What if my great, great, great, great, grandma took over the world in the future? They just wouldn't exist and nobody would care because what could of been wasn't and thats that eg: I wish I hadn't answered the phone now...- you can't change that it just happened. Imagine what could of been if you hadn't eaten that nut... and like just about nearly everybody says...everything happens for a reason..goodbye the end shut up whatever, the world is stupid, people live, help themselves, blah blah blah, humans are selfish, stupid beings that shouldn't exist! then the world would be a better place... and I would be the last person alive on earth, living the rest of my life in harmony and without something to hate so horribly much! so much....... -
Just my OpinionI once see this card with nothing but a Q and A on it, it said:Voted for by Child of an Angel.
Question
God Why havent you sent us a cure for Aids or cancer?
Answer from God:
I have, you've aborted all of them.
I am female, yet I am Against abortion. That little child did not ask for you to "open your legs" and make him or her, He deserves his chance to a life. All his "rights" are being taken away because people dont accept responsibility for their mistakes. Yes having a baby is ro ugh, hard, painful and emotional, but, murder is also painful and emotional too. Did you not think of the consequences when you decided to not use protection, no, so pay the consequences. End of my opinion. The child has a right to life. After you have a baby your life does not end, after you have an abortion, the babies does. -
Question for ChristiansThis is one question I have to ask.Voted for by me alone.
According to the bible something isn't alive until it has blood, which isn't until I think its either 12 or 24 days later I always mix it up with another statistic and it doesn't have a heart until in between one month and a month and a half.
So why do most christians argue that one sperm meets egg its life, I don't remember the exact verse but according to the bible life is in the blood.
Just being curious

Another questionOh one more questionVoted for by me alone.
It has been proven recently that there are violence genes and such and it could be possible that there is even a gene that makes someone a serial killer or a rapist. Lets say this theory gets proven true, would you still want to force raped women to have their children?
Just being curious

AbortionTo me, life begins at conception. Once the zygote is formed, it has the ability to form into a fully grown human being. But if you cannot accept the fact that a zygote is just as important life-wise as a 10 year old child, Then think about this. The zygote is simply a small version of a human. Just the youngest form of a human. WHy should an older form of a human be considered alive when the younger part isn't? Just because it's only a few cells? Well big whoop, older people are just more cells. No difference.Voted for by Doom Pickels.
Women who are pro-choice, should think about what they stand for. Shall you take a child's life? The child can't choose. You guys are not "for women" as more than half of aborted children are girls. Rape should justify killing a child. Should I kill the neighbors kid, because my neighbor killed my wife? Is really a wrong for a wrong the answer? Incest should be justification for abortion. Just because you conceived your kin's seed doesn't mean you should kill the baby. SHould the baby have to pay for your wrongs? The baby does have a highest risk of being deformed, but still, let him have a chance at life, I know many deformed children that love life. What about you? You were once a fetus. Did your parents abort you? Should your children not also have an equal chance at life?
The ONLY and I mean ONLY time you should EVER abort a child, is if it has connected to you in a very deadly spot, and would kill you if it was left to grow. (like the flallopian tube). In this case, you and the child would die anyways. -
Abortion is OK?!?!?!What if you were one of the aborted?Voted for by dollar.
Would you think abortion was ok then? No! because you'd be dead before you even had a chance to start life. -
did you like havaing existeddo you think that having the aportunity to exust and to expeirence life is imortant. than you are against abortion. by the way the declaration of independence... life, liberty, and persuit of happines... without life you cant have anything and that is what abortion is. the stoping of of an aportunity for liberty and the persuit of happiness.Voted for by pnktrky.
-
my opinion.....I honestly think abortions are ok,as why would you want both to bring a baby that may not be wanted so will not be loved? i would never want to have a child at a very young age, keep it and then one day in an arguement turn round and say "i regret having you",or something very similar.because it'll be so much rejection in that childs life.Voted for by night sky mystery.
saying that the girl is irrasponseable and if she was to have an orbortion is takin it out on the baby,i think is totally out of order.maybe the girl was raped?or is seriuosly too young and naive and would never take proper care for the child?there are countless reasons for why this certain thing would take place,so i wont list these are just a few.
i think a baby should be planned,or major problems could arise afterward the birth.
dont have a baby if you cant look after or dont want one for any reason,as long as you have thought about it and have no doubts.
adopyion is an idea but that child will feel unwanted, unloved and feel like a mistake, when maybe necersserly isint.or when the child is older they may look for their parents which cause long struggle and emotional torts,as it may not turn out to go way things hoped.
I really believe that every baby/child desevers to have a wonderful up bringing feeling loved, wanted, cared for, taken care of,feed,clothed..ect,ect. i think if you bring a child into the world it should have all those things. Also i think you should think really carefully and long and hard for decision, theres no rush.and like ive said if you really for what ever reason not want a child then be careful and use protection,or have an obortion if that is the only way you believe is correct FOR YOU!!
*best wishes*
