If someone kills someone and then is caught, should they recieve the death penalty?

If someone commits a murder, do they deserve to die??? Does that just sink us to their level or is it justice?

How many people get freed from prison every year for being wrongfully accused, or simply giving in under interegated because the stress was to high? A LOT OF PEOPLE. It's insane. So are you willing to kill someone who may or may not be the killer of the girl on Nancy Grace? Even if the killer fesses up, is he or she in her right mind? Is he another mentally ill person fessing up for the murder and rape of a little girl when he's not even contenent enough to know he didn't?

Why risk murdering someone you aren't POSITIVE in every way is the killer? So we lethally inject or give some chick the chair for killing her boyfriend...Then three weeks later, he ex-girlfriend is found guilty. Can you say lawsuit? LAW-SOOT. Bad. BAD-UH!

  • what it shows.....
In a new point.. I wanted to point out what allowing the death penalty shows other people. It shows that if you kill to get rid of one that is murdered it is justified. For that is what the death penalty does, it kills people who killed another person. Whether it is the law killing or just someone else killing, if they both are killing only the murderers then why would the one not in law be justified for doing what the law does. The law tries to punish them for doing what they themsleves are doing in law. Killing someone for killing is just unrational and unjustified for any reason.

  • a different view.
I suggest a different approach, take two people of the same size, stature who are lined for death row,and stick them in a plain empty room. Say you have an hour, and only one can walk out.

  • Difficult one...
Although I don't like it, I think the reality of death sometimes might bring a lost soul to belief and repentence, like a good hiding used to bring me to my senses :-) (That was all that I heard).

Also, I come from a country (not the US) where the death penalty was abolished. The effect of this is that our jails are now totally over-populated. Corruption and gangsterism in the jails are rife. More (innocent) people die in this country in a year from violent crimes than in some war zones. People are willing to pull the trigger for the money, because they have nothing, really nothing, to loose (Even jail for them is a nice prospect, in which they function in similar hierarchy). Some gangs even get run from the jails.

From an idealistic approach, no. From a practical approach, perhaps. From a religious approach, perhaps. This has nothing to do with forgiveness. This has to do with liability. If one believes that death is not as it seems, then the reality of death my cause the fear of God. This in turn may cause repentance, which lead to life despite death. Just a thought.

  • No.
Death is the easy way out. Basically put, to me the Death Penalty is a form of vengeance, not punishment. All it does is take another life. What good does it do? None. No; not a thing regardless of your arguements. What is just, is sticking them in jail and leaving them there until they have a natural death. Yes, it costs tax payers. But for me, it is money well spent to let the people live with what they've done rather than get away with it.

Killing is wrong to me, no matter what. If that's offensive to you, well...that's just my opinion. You have yours, as I have mine. Get on with your life. I respect soldiers for defending their country and what not, but they still are killing. I'm not going to think less of them, and I suppose it does not put them on the same level as some wicked cur that takes, say, a child's life, but...they still kill.
