Every living thing dies. Why?

reincarnationVoted for by Cornilius.
We die so our souls can move on to a new incarnation. If we didn't die, our souls would be stuck and there would be no new life.

things break down.Voted for by ShockinglyCute.
we die because we age, and if we didnt, life would be hell after a few hundred years. think about just getting older and older and older but never being able to die? you would be wrinkled, have trouble moving properly, your brain might even start to disintigrate from age or something. the human body just isnt meant to last that long.

It's all about evolutionVoted for by PurplePayne.
In my belief we die because we're not perfect. When we die our souls go to what I refer to as an entity, which is kind of like a great ball of energy and knowlege. When we die, everything that we've learned is stored in the entity. I believe we are then reborn and all the knowlege from the entity is divided into the new race of human begins we will become. In short, we die to become better. Every life we live, we learn more and take more back to the entity at the end of that life. That way we can evolve.

we each have our own spirit inside of us. god has temporarilly placed us on this planet so that our spirits learn, and grow. in a way our bodies are portals for our spirits who want to be on earth, and experience it. when we are born, we forget the spirit world which we came from, and we are born, live and die, returning to the spirit world. death is nothing, life is nothing, the only reason we are here is for our spirits to grow and gain wisdom. hope it makes some sense to you people, sometimes my thoughts don't come out like they do in my head.

moving onVoted for by Natsumi Nuada.
i think that it's not so much dieing as it is moving to something different. people are energy right? well energy can't be destroyed, so really we don't die as much as move on to the next life, plain of existance or whatever.

So Life Has MeaningVoted for by david13.
Imagine if we could never die no matter what we did. That would mean that everyone would be a stuntman because even if you didn't make it over Snake River you wouldn't die if the car went into flames. You'd just get up without a scratch. There would be no meaning in your feat because if there was no death than living is easy and thus you can never attain anything because everyone else would be able to do the same thing. Life would be boring as Hell. Heaven requires death. It is for your own good.

What would be our....motivation if we didnt die? Maybe experience, but all our experiences give us are chemical reactions which are mostly geared to protect us and help us survive. So would we still need experience and what would those experiences be?Voted for by Applehead.

It Gives Life MeaningThink about it -- without darkness, how would we know what light is? How could we appreciate it if we don't know of darkness, which we fear, and are only knowledgeable of goodness?Voted for by To Heart.
We die because if we do not in life, we cannot appreciate it. -
To pay our debt.We die to return to the earth what we have taken from it. We die, we rot, and the earth reaps our nutrients, carbon, and water. We replenish some of what we took. We wear out. We perish. It's a part of the circle of life. We are born to survive, and when we can no longer do so, nature takes us away.Voted for by Oral Fixation.

lifeYou can't "live" if there is no death, I think. We wouldn't call it "living." Could we actually speak of someone being alive, if there is no such thing as death??Voted for by loveyourfate.

Without death we would not be hereDeath is crucial for complex life forms like ourselves to evolve. In nature, well adapted organisms are more likely to survive and reproduce, thereby passing on their strong genes to their offspring. The weaker organisms are more likely to die. Over the course of millions of years, the stronger genes accumulate, slowly making each subsequent generation better equipped to survive, which can lead to highly evolved species like humans appearing.Voted for by aerozeppelin.
In this process of natural selection, death serves as a way of 'filtering out' weaker individuals. Without it, there would be no pressure to adapt to the environment and we would never have reached anywhere near our current complexity (and nor would any other life form have done). So it is an essential part of the natural world. -
what is deathto understand why we die we should ask ourselves the next questionVoted for by dark.angel.
