Abortion--wrong or right?

I believe abortion is wrong. And so is the legal system dealing with abortion.

For example: If a person murders someone, it's one count of murder. If a person murders a pregnant woman, it is two counts of murder. If a woman gets an abortion, it is legal. Why is this not thought of as murder?

  • not an option

Abortion should never be an option.Celibacy, now there is an option. As to rape being a rational for abortion, what ever happened to "two wrongs don't make a right"? If I am raped, and decide days later that I wish to have the rapist eliminated to save me pain I go to jail. Why then should I have the right to eliminate an innocent person merely because they may remind me of pain I have suffered at someone else's hands?

  • This is such a tired topic
I think the only thing we learn from abortion discussions is that democracy doesn't work on such polarized topics--everyone's opinions cancel each other out!

Maybe the decision should be localized. Only you can abort *your* child; but then you have right-wing republicans who care all about the fetus--- UNTIL IT BECOMES A CHILD, at which point they don't give a damn about it.

So anyway, perhaps we should be having more interesting debates to pass our time. Here are some suggestions:

    * Is (male) masturbation abortion at a large scale?
    * How can we get poor people (too poor to raise a child) to use prophylactics?
    * What is the best way to abort a child?

  • be totally prepared to love a child before considering pregnancy

I would hate to be in a situation where abortion even had to be considered. I think a lot of people are worried about the loss of life, or potential life (and they have every right to be worried). It concerns me too. Just think for a moment now, every month a female has her period that's a potential life lost. And every time a male ejaculates that's quite a few potential lives lost. I find that almost funny! The world would be totally over-populated if every life was kept. Death was created for a reason, I feel. But I think everyone should be totally prepared to raise and love a child whatever happens before even considering to get pregnant - so abortion doesn't have to be an issue at all.

  • Murder,

If you are going to suport abortion , then it seems hypocritical to limit it by age or developmental stage, why not abort anyone who you view to be in your way, ...your boss, your spouse , your inlaws, the guy at the insurance office, the water company, if they hinder what you see as your chioice simply abort them , you cant have your cake and eat it too, just because some one else is in your body , does not make thier body yours, murder is murder is murder

  • not wrong. not right, but god's will

There isn't anything moraly wrong with abortion. God sees no sanctity in human life. He killed all of the first born sons of egypt. If that isn't late term abortion, I don't know what is.

We are the only creatures on the planet selfish enough, stupid enough, wrong enough to kill our next generation before they have a chance to thrive.... isn't that great? we are lower than animals... we have the moral codes of fleas and ticks. We live in an age that promotes sex and denotes children and marriage... and for what?! so we can be whores and unfaithful bastards? we make no sense... we all need some brains.

  • Human nature over rules.
Abortion can't be considered right or wrong. When it comes down to what this country itself (for me, it's the united states) is founded on, you can't really lean one way or the other. We're all given the freedom of speech, and the right to live, and the right to live while in the pursuit of happiness.

Now if someone is in the pursuit of happiness, and they don't have the means or abilities to care for a child, then by all means I believe that they should either opt for adoption, or have an abortion. Now I'm not saying that abortion should be used as a method of contraception, because by all means that isn't true.

I think that you have to consider people when considering the topic of abortion. You can't use a statistic or a generalization to justify a topic as touchy as this one. People give birth to people. So you have to consider that with people also comes the god given fact of human nature. It's human nature to do what's in our best interest, and be damned with the government if they don't agree.

How do you think we manage to survive from day to day? By walking in the black and white of a dictated law? Not at all.

You have to consider things outside of the black & white scope of a society dictated picture.

For example, would you really want someone abusive to have and raise a child, knowing very well that they are abusive, and have been abusive previously? Would you want a drug addict to be born and have a child, knowing very well that their child would be born with a painful addiction?

Either way, right or wrong, it's a matter of human nature and personal decision.

To be blunt, our country is full of hypocrites and I'm done with this discussion.

  • Wrong, yes. Right, maybe
I do strongly believe against it, but my opinion is not the opinion of all. If it were up to me, it wouldn't be allowed. But it might be a good thing that it is. If a woman that was pregnant was desperate enough to not have a baby, she could easily find a way to have a miscarriage. Having legal abortion is much safer, no matter how morally right it may be.

  • I agree

I agree with with Ilovemygrape, it has no feeling no emotions it feels nothing and there is a time limit to which a abortion can be completed. A woman has A right to chose but a father should have a say so in this also.

  • Personal Choice
Its not a matter of what I think, or you think, or the government thinks; it's a matter of what the pregnant women thinks. Same with guns; I might think their wrong to own, but it's not my decision, it's yours.

Another thing I'd like to point out is that you really have no right telling people what they should and shouldn't do unless you've been through that situation.

  • a little hope
Everyone is opinionated....so it doesnt really matter what I say cause most of you will disagree.

Abortion, to me, is taking the easy way out, its' a sin to God, its' a way to set yourself up for depression, bad habits, nasty diseases, and even death. Worst of all, abortion is taking away an individuals life. This is why I consider so many women murderes. They created the PERSON ggrowing inside them, actually, the life form growing inside them was a gift from God, and God should be the only person able to take it away. But God gave us Free Will and thats' why we do these things. so many young kids go out and have sex, not worrying about the consequences, then they become pregnant adn they look to have an abortion for many reasons like:

    1. Parents
    2. Financially unstable
    3. Fear of raising a child
    4. Discrimination
    5. not being accepted by friends, family, society

There are more reasons, but these are the main one's I have seen. I just really think all these reasons are for the easy way out. The women made the mistake, she should take responsibility for her actions.

It all turns out weird too. There are people who can have babies, but dont want them, and there are people who wants babies but can't have them. Abortion is selfish. Women should have the baby and give to a good home. Give it to a women who has no other way to become a mother.

For me, there is no reason to have an abortion. No life or death situation that would make me kill the growing person inside me. I would die for it, rape wouldn't matter. The baby wouldn't remind me of the night I got raped, it would tell me i'm blessed to even hold a child in my arms. I would cherish my baby and that would be the attitude i would expect from him/her. For any person thinking of aborting a baby...just know there is hope, and there is a better way out of things. If you need someone to talk to through pregnancy...or to help you cope with it all....people will listen.

  • change a life forever or take one?
one needs to take into consideration that even if it’s the mothers fault, it’s not the child’s. I know that many find it to be justifiable to have an abortion based on the lack of responsibility. But my question is, what makes the child any less human than if the individual was having the child consensually or by force? Understanding that having a child will undoubtedly change the woman’s life, one also needs to consider which is worse having changed life, or taking one? I don’t deny the difficulty or the hardship one may face in having a child, “but a person is a person no matter how small.”
I’m not going to argue at what stage a human becomes a human life, other than to say that by the time a woman realizes she is pregnant, they are well passed the conception stage, and the only arguments you have left is the size, the level of development, the degree of dependency and the area the child is growing. But ultimately, why are we punishing the very person who is the most innocent out of anyone, and all they ever did was exist?

  • neither
it is not "right" per se... but it most certainly is not "wrong"... it is a tool, a function of society... used in order to save lives and livelihoods...

it is not a life until viability... until then it has no more rights than a tumor or growth or any other clump of cells... a person has a right to remove any part of their body they see fit, in my opinion... if that bit of their body cannot survive on it's own then so be it... be it a leg or a fetus...

  • Taking an innocent life should not be a right.
I'm a woman, and women do have the right to chose when they are ready to have a baby. If they are not, or they are raped, or there are medical reasons, there are always other options besides abortion. You have a 72-74 hour window to get the pill from the moment you are raped or made a mistake. The fetus would not even be a fetus at this point just an egg and sperm. After your window of opportunity has passed, I believe the pregnancy should be carried out. If you don't feel warm feelings of attachment for your infant than let a loving person/or people adopt that precious baby. Most cases pregnancy's can be prevented, now a days you should be having protected sex no matter what until you're ready. Not only should a guy have a condom, but the girl should be on birth control. This is the best way to minimize your chances of getting pregnant if you're going to have sex. You must also keep in mind that when you have sex protected, even still there is a slim possibility it could fail, and there could be an unplanned pregnancy, so as an adult, if you're going to have sex like an adult, you need to be responsible like one too. People who have abortions are irresponsible and are immature if they think that's a means of birth control. I strongly recommend people who are considering having abortions, google abortion pics, and if you chose not to, or have, or do and still don't care, you're heartless, and I believe people eventually always get what they deserve. I am not being morbid by suggesting this, what is morbid is people do this, turning their back on the reality of this. They are babies very early on in pregnancy. I have 2 healthy babies and they only added to my life, not took away. I then decided to have my tubes tide because I had a hard time bearing my children and it was a health risk not only to me, but could been deadly for future children. This is also an option too, getting your tubes tide. again still need to have safe sex, because getting your tubes tide is not always going to keep you from getting pregnant. Please join the fight to help save innocent lives. Maybe you have had an abortion, but didn't realize the rality of the pain that is inflicted on the fetus when aborted, just don't do it again please, knowing is just half the battle, if you did not know, you were misinformed, it's not your fault, but you can make a change now, it's not to late to do the right thing. Yes there is a chance a child could get adopted into a bad place, but it's not likely with all of the assessments they do to make sure a child goes to a good home. You should at least give that child a shot. Maybe life hasn't been great for you, but it could be for them, and who knows, maybe that baby is what will make your life complete, mine do. There are plenty of places that help you , if you decide to keep the child, look into it. Above all, try to prevent unwanted pregnancies from even happening, use protection, or toys, don't have sex until you're ready for the possibility, etc. Don't make excuses. A very low percentage of the population is raped or have a medical condition that absolutely requires an abortion, they may have an excuse, do you really?

  • Mother's choice
I would hope the mother wouldn't abort her child, and consider giving it up for adoption. Though the government has no right to tell a woman what she can do with her body. So, I think abortion should stay legal

  • PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERN
if it were made illegal, it wouldn't stop the practice of doing it. it would go underground, performed by people who don't know what they're doing, and that is then dangerous for the mother.

there are much greater chances now, as it is, that the mother will get through the process without being injured.

regardless of the right and wrong for the fetus/baby, the legality protects the mother.
